Wipro announced on August 21 that it will acquire the digital transformation solutions (DTS) business unit of HARMAN, an independent subsidiary of Samsung. The deal, which is aimed at boosting its engineering and digital services, is expected to close by December 31, subject to regulatory approvals.

The deal will bring more than 5,600 DTS employees, including key leaders across the Americas, Europe and Asia, into Wipro. DTS specialises in digital engineering, connected products and software platforms.

“Their (Harman) specialised engineering expertise, combined with Wipro’s consulting-led, AI-powered capabilities, will significantly enhance the value we deliver to clients. DTS’ strong presence in high-growth sectors and strategic markets complements our global footprint and strengthens our position as a trusted transformation partner,” Srini Pallia, CEO of Wipro, said in the announcement.

The DTS unit will become part of Wipro’s Engineering Global Business Line. Wipro stated the acquisition will expand its offerings across technology, industrial, aerospace, healthcare and consumer industries.

“The acquisition of DTS marks a pivotal step in Wipro’s ambition to bring to our clients end-to-end, AI-powered engineering services,” Srikumar Rao, MP and global head of engineering at Wipro, stated in the statement.

Christian Sobottka, CEO of Harman, said the deal will allow DTS to scale faster under Wipro.

Wipro also announced a multi-year strategic partnership with Harman and Samsung as part of the deal, aimed at exploring new opportunities for joint growth.
