Window Installation Raleigh New Construction vs Replacement
There are two fundamentally different types of window installation: new construction installation and replacement installation. Understanding the difference helps you have a more informed conversation with your contractor and understand what the project involves. New construction windows have a nailing fin, a flat flange around the perimeter of the frame that attaches directly to the structural framing of the wall. These are used when building a new home or when the exterior cladding and interior finish around a window is being fully replaced. Replacement windows, also called insert windows, are designed to fit within the existing frame. The old sash and hardware are removed, but the frame stays in place. The new window unit inserts into the existing opening.
