Yoshida, who debuted in the big league last year, had a relatively successful debut season, recording a batting average of .289 (155 hits in 537 at-bats), 15 home runs, 72 RBI, and an OPS of .783 in 140 games. He finished sixth in American League Rookie of the Year voting. However, he showed disappointing performances in defense and base running, and his WAR (contribution to wins relative to replacement) was only 0.6, based on baseball statistics site Fangraph.
