Former President Donald Trump apologized to Sen. Ted Cruz for insulting his wife’s looks, suggesting his father was involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, and questioning whether the Texas Republican could legally run for president if he was born in Canada, according to a forthcoming book by Paul Manafort.
“On his own initiative, Trump did apologize for saying some of the things he said about Cruz, which was unusual for Trump,” the 45th president’s onetime campaign chairman writes, according to the Guardian .
During the bruising 2016 Republican primary race, Trump called Heidi Cruz “ugly,” suggested Ted’s father , Rafael, had ties to Kennedy assassin Lee Harvey Oswald, publicly cast doubt on Cruz’s eligibility to run for president and bestowed the nickname “Lyin’ Ted ” upon the senator.

According to Manafort, the real estate tycoon approached Cruz prior to the Republican National Convention that July to secure the Texan’s endorsement.
Cruz, who had finished runner-up to Trump in the nominating contest, responded to the overture by saying he would work with Trump but not endorse him “because his supporters didn’t want him to.”
“It was a forced justification for someone who is normally very logical. Trump didn’t buy it,” Manafort reportedly writes.
Despite Cruz’s cool reception, the author goes on, Trump apologized and told his rival that he “considered him an ally, not an enemy, and that he believed they could work together when Trump was president.”
Cruz notably did not endorse Trump in his convention remarks, outraging the delegates and leading to his wife being escorted out of the hall over fears for her safety.
During Cruz’s remarks, Manafort recalls, Trump groused, “This is bulls–t” and walked to the back of the arena, “effectively pulling the attention away from Cruz and undercutting his speech.”
Cruz was initially upset by Trump’s display of petulance.
“It took months to bring that relationship back,” Manafort writes. “But eventually Cruz came around to supporting Trump, and Trump harbored no ill will.”
Manafort, now 73, resigned as Trump campaign chair that August after news reports detailed under-the-table payments he received for lobbying work on behalf of Ukraine’s pro-Moscow president, Viktor Yanukovych.
Ultimately, Manafort was sentenced to seven years in prison for tax fraud and other crimes related to his work in Ukraine — charges that emerged from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation. Trump pardoned Manafort in December 2020.
Manafort’s book, “Political Prisoner: Persecuted, Prosecuted, but Not Silenced,” is due out Aug. 16.

The Illinois dad whose wife, four kids and young family friend were killed in a head-on highway crash has also died, making him the eighth fatality in the horrid weekend smash.
Thomas Dobosz, 32, was initially airlifted to a hospital in critical condition after the Chevrolet van he was driving smashed head-on with an Acura TSX that was heading the wrong way on Interstate 90 around 2 a.m. Sunday, Illinois State Police said.
Both vehicles “became engulfed in flames,” killing the 22-year-old Acura driver, Jennifer Fernandez, as well as Dobosz’s wife and four kids, along with a 13-year-old family friend who was with them.
But the dad was also “subsequently pronounced deceased,” police said in an update Wednesday, confirming that all involved were now dead.
An online fundraiser that has collected more than $100,000 by Thursday also shared the news “with a heavy heart.”
“Tom has gained his angel wings and is now with his amazing wife Lauren and precious children,” the fundraiser said, asking for people to “keep this family in your prayers.”
Fernandez had been alone in the Acura at the time of the accident, which is still under investigation, cops said. It’s unclear why the Acura TSX was heading the wrong way.
She was pronounced dead at the scene along with all seven passengers in Dobosz’s van, police said.
The fundraiser identified them as his 31-year-old wife, Lauren Dobosz; their children, Ella, 5, Nicholas, 7, Lucas, 8, and Emma, 13; and the teen’s friend Katriona Koziara, who was also 13. The family, from suburban Chicago, had just started traveling to Minnesota for a vacation before the smash in rural Riley.
A separate fundraiser for Katriona said “she was in the prime of her youth and always seen with a smiling face and positive attitude.”

A dad broke down when he discovered his wife had committed the ultimate betrayal , and the footage has people cracking up around the world.
Cop and TikToker @officer_baker gained nearly 750,000 views, 161,000 likes and 5,400 comments when he uploaded the emotional video to his account.
According to Baker, it all began when he came home early to surprise his wife. That’s when he discovered her deep and unforgivable betrayal.
“I’ve never been more angry. … I’m hurt, I’m sad,” the dad said to the camera, tears rolling down his cheeks. “I want y’all to see what she did to me. … I would never do this to her. … I feel betrayed!”
The grieving husband, still in his uniform, continued, “I don’t know what I’m going to do. I can’t trust her now. … I can’t trust her.”
Knowing his viewers would be on pins and needles at this point, eager to know what his wife had done to hurt him so deeply, Baker finally revealed the cruel offense.
His wife, the mother of his child and partner in life, had eaten the very last Krispy Kreme glazed donut.
“She didn’t save me a bite, nothin’. She didn’t care about me, bro,” the officer cried.
TikTokers were shocked by the wife’s baked goods betrayal.
“Man, you don’t need her. Keep your head up, G,” one user wrote in the comments.
“I can’t believe she did that,” another wrote.
“Damn bro, I know how that is. Keep your head up king,” commented another user.
“I’m sorry man. You’ll get through this,” said another.
“I’m sorry she did this to you. Stay strong,” one user wrote.
“Man I thought you were being serious. You had me rolling. This is hilarious,” another user commented, laugh-crying emojis in tow.
Hopefully, for the sake of their child, Baker and his wife will manage to work through this challenging time together, and find a way to reestablish trust in their relationship.

A concerned husband has accused his wife of having an “emotional affair” with her biological dad.
Sharing on Reddit, the man said his spouse had recently been reunited with her father after a long absence.
But since reconciling, the husband said his wife and her dad have been privately talking and texting “all the time”.

And in a “disturbing” twist, he claims to have caught them lying in bed together on more than one occasion.
Asking for guidance, the man said his wife refuses to see her close relationship with her father as anything but normal.
“Is it at all acceptable that my wife has basically started an emotional affair with her recently-reunited biological dad?” the husband asked.
“They talk/text all the time. She always leaves the room or relocates when doing so.
“On a recent vacation I found them sleeping next to each other. Fully clothed, but a bit disturbing.
“I told her that it made me uncomfortable, she claimed to understand, but apparently it didn’t mean much.
“A couple of weeks ago he came to stay, and once again they were laying in bed together in the dark - with the door closed!
“I’ve let my wife know that I feel disrespected and confused about the situation, but her stance is that it’s completely normal, and she refuses to make concession.
“I’m not the crazy one here, am I?”
The man went on to say that despite discussing the issue with his wife and her dad, she won’t back down.
Other Reddit users were quick to offer their support and opinions.
“My guess it that it could be her trying to get the father daughter bonding she missed in childhood,” said one.
“Or the need for that paternal feeling of being safe and protected.
“While I don’t agree with her approach to handling the situation with you, there is a chance she may not realise where these behavioural choices are rooted.”
Said another: “I shouldn’t make assumptions but it’s possible that your wife is having basic, fundamental emotional needs met for the first time in her life.
“Needs that the rest of us hopefully had met at extremely young ages, when lying down with a parent in the dark (for example) isn’t seen as inappropriate.
“I have no idea what they are doing but it’s possible that it isn’t inappropriate. It’s my opinion that so many aspects of reunion are bizarre because the whole situation is bizarre. Adults shouldn’t have to form new parental bonds.”
