The Russian financial market is captured by ecosystems: banks alone have already invested almost ₽2.5 trillion in non-core assets. However, not everyone needs an ecosystem, and not always. We tell you why it is very expensive. Creating an ecosystem requires huge financial injections. For example, according to the Central Bank, the top 30 Russian credit institutions have invested about ₽2.4 trillion in immobilized (non-core) assets that can be included in the ecosystem contour. In the first half of 2021 alone, Sber invested $1 billion in its own ecosystem, and the same amount from 2017 to 2019. Despite this, the ecosystem remains unprofitable: in the six months of the outgoing year, it lost ₽19.2 billion. The loss increased 2.7 times compared to the same period in 2020. Not everyone is ready for such expenses. For example, Tinkoff Group refused to develop any areas other than financial ones.
