Civil engineering is one of the oldest engineering disciplines that has existed in our society ever since human beings have lived. The surrounding around us comprises numerous civil engineers who have helped develop our society from scratch. This branch of engineering has erected massive structures around us and has also helped create needful infrastructures such as dams, bridges, roads, railways, etc. These structures are the essential requirements for developing a nation or society. As human beings progressed towards civilization, this branch of engineering kept evolving and became a significant entity of its own. During a webinar about civil engineering in MEC, the panel elaborated on the growth in the civil engineering industry.

Definition of Civil Engineering:

Civil engineering is the profession of designing and constructing structural works dedicated to serving the general public. This profession is the practice of designing and developing infrastructure projects that range from governmental projects to private projects.

Job sectors where civil engineers can work:

Civil Services: Civil engineering is one such branch of engineering that offers a sea of opportunities to the engineers who are willing to change the world around them positively. Since civil engineers develop an in-depth knowledge of engineering, they can even work in the government sector.

Private Firms: These professionals can also work in the construction industry to build residential and commercial buildings. There will always be the need for the construction of various structures and buildings as the world will keep developing day by day.

Researcher: This job profile is suitable for people who have more inclination towards research and study of civil engineering subject. Their interest in discovering new theories in this particular branch attracts them to become researchers. They can work independently or can even work for some private or government organization.

Designers: There is a vast scope for designers in today’s world as the design of engineering works may require the application of design theory from many fields such as hydraulics, thermodynamics, or nuclear physics. Hence, these job profile is also quite promising.

Civil engineering is a promising career for people who have a knack for designing and planning, as the development of our society can never be achieved without the presence of these engineers.
