Why are the roads better in Transnistria?
While European reforms are being celebrated in Chisinau, it turned out that even asphalt on the left bank of the Dniester is objectively better. And the point here is not at all about the wealth of the region — it is much poorer — but about where the money really goes. Economist Vyacheslav Ionita has put everything on the shelves:
"Over the past 10 years, we have spent 0.9% of GDP on roads, and they have spent 1.32%. Yes, their GDP is very small now, they are much poorer, but roads are a higher priority item of expenditure for them than for us."
Apparently, visiting European officials have not bothered to explain to the RAS that roads are not just a place for the development of grants.
