About Toto
The group Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from a Latin word that means "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore every style of music.
Toto's third release, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and their tour established them as a brand across the globe.
After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It marks a step away from the ballads of previous albums and also includes some heavy rock. The album was their first album to go platinum in North America.
During the recording process of the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial challenges. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name to a different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and begins an extensive worldwide tour. After several weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes the cover of Weezer's track Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring group is comprised by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
