I was testing out my second run attempt at lippies, or as it shall be known: Red is Impossible. These are much higher pigmented than the first run, which were more like tinted lip balms of various opacities, so I decided to go with a very minimal, neutral eye. Very cheesecake pin-up...without the cheesecake or the panties. Blah. Here's a better pic of the lippie itself. Which is not red. No lipliner, and I'm bad at coloring in the lines. Don't look at my lip hair! Bea was desperate to get in the pictures, she jumped onto the back of my office chair, putting her at eye level with me (quite a feat as she has no front claws!), but then wouldn't hold still for it. As punishment, the whole internet gets to see her bad picture. I told her so. Of course I also told her that D was going to tell Santa on her for being so stinky.
Ulta had a 40% off sale on Nyx products so I went a little crazy. I bought a "Mood" lipgloss, a lipstick, an eyebrow powder/wax kit, a few glitter liners and probably more things, but I'm totally blanking on them right now. Okay, so the last few times I've ordered from Ulta, I've been sort of disappointed. The second to last time I ordered something with the promise of 2 eyeshadow brushes as a free gift. I ordered almost immediately when the offer went out, but when I received my order, no brushes. Sad. This time I again jumped on the website immediately and ordered a bunch of stuff, including 3-4 of the glitter liners I had been eyeing. When I get my order, all but one of the glitter liners is taken off (out of stock) but when I look at the website, they ARE STILL LISTED! And I think there is something else missing from my order, but I haven't gone back to check. And I think because of the supposedly out of stock items, the coupon I used for $3.50 off was also taken off. So I paid the same amount as the original order, but it was missing a bunch of items. Grrrrr! Anyway, on to happier reviews. I always wanted mood lipstick. I remember it from back in the 80's when I wasn't really allowed to wear makeup. You could say I coveted it even. They came in blue and green and purple, and they all....pretty much turned the same shade of pink. So I fulfilled my mood lipstick desires with the Nyx Mood Lip Gloss. It is clear, and a lot runnier than I am used to. I immediately squeezed it out onto my sweater, leaving a huge fuchsia spot. But it blotted off pretty easily. SAVED! This stuff is super glossy, faintly scented/flavored unobtrusively, and turns the PRETTIEST shade of pink. Almost a barely there, your-lips-but-better color. And it kind of works as a stain, so on me at least it lasted a while. I read some reviews where other people complained that it didn't. I got curious about how this stuff works, and it turns out it contains an acid indicator, like litmus paper, that turns pink to red depending on how acidic your body chemistry is. This is partially genetic, part diet, and can also be effected by stress, etc. Like everything girly. I thought that was pretty brilliant though. I'm going to try and find out what the acid indicator is, and get some to add to my lippies. I also bought a Nyx Eyebrow Cake Powder in Blonde. I am self conscious about my eyebrows. I feel like they are a shade too dark, but my sisters are both stylists and they won't let me lighten them. I actually get kind of creeped out if I look at my eyebrows too long, they just seem weird to me, and the idea of making them even more obvious is really bizarro. So I got blonde in the hopes that it would lighten them. Okay, so maybe I AM a blonde. This made my eyebrows look drawn on, and I was self-conscious about them all day. The compact comes with two brow powders (I used the lighter of them), a wax, and a mascara wand-like brow brush, and an angled shadow brush for the powder. I can't really figure out how I'm supposed to get the wax out. I tried using my finger, and that was too clumsy, wax all over my skin, and then I tried dipping the wand in, but it was clumpy. Either way, my eyebrows did NOT stay put all day, and instead were as wacky as ever, while also being waxy. I'll probably keep this around for the next time I over-pluck, just to fill in the space, but I don't think I'll use it much. That's a long enough review for one entry. Tonight I attempted round 2 of formulating lippies. My goal was to make a true/classic red. I'm afraid I have failed miserably. Instead I made a really saucy pink-red, a copper, a wine and a silvered-lilac. I scented/flavored them with rum, but I'm not sure I like it. One is almond. I'm considering all the lippies the first item in the Dirty Whore line, and they will be rum and amaretto flavored, for all my drunk-ass bitches. As to how pigmented, etc...who knows? I think they need to "cure" a day or two before they are really ready. The texture that I tried so far is pretty good. I fixed most of the excessive coconut oil problems, hopefully. Defeated, out of carmine, and still without a red.

Oh how I've been wishing for something like this. I haven't made any up yet, but in the near future there will be, and I will make up little cards to hand out with the discount code on it, and it will be a glorious day! So keep an eye out. I've made my first sale in Australia! It turns out, it is really expensive to mail something to Australia using any method other than First Class USPS. So we are both taking a leap of faith and going for it. Hopefully her package arrives in one piece in a reasonable amount of time. The USPS site doesn't give a range of time for International First Class. So 3 full-size eyeshadows, I'm going to throw in a bunch of samples, and maybe a postcard from Dayton. I'm really excited about sending mail out that far, and am considering including a few extra little surprises. I usually include extra samples in anything I mail out. I look at the purchase and try to include colors I would wear with those colors, or if it is something like a neutral, I include other shades that are close, just in case the color isn't quite right. I'm giddy with the idea of sharing my stuff across so much ocean! And I'm thinking I should've bought more OPI Shatter. I'm hearing how hard it is to get a hold of from all sides.
I picked up some nail polish at Ulta yesterday, unlike anything in my collection. It is a black polish that you paint on top of some other polish after it dries, and while it (Shatter) is drying, it breaks up, creating a cracked effect. I painted each nail with a different brand/type of polish to see what worked best. And I had my man try some on his bare nails. Left hand (bottom to top) - Zoya Delilah, Sinful Colors Frenzy, Zoya Tangy, Zoya Trixie, Zoya Nova Right hand (bottom to top) - Sinful Colors Pinky Glitter, Zoya Kotori, Morbid Shimmer Pink, Sinful Colors Love Nails, Scherer Chameleon Blue Sky I only painted one coat of each because I was anxious to test out Shatter. I'm sure it would be more striking if I had put on one more coat of each color. I found Shatter works best if you try to put it on in 2 strokes, without worrying about covering the whole nail. On bare nails it doesn't shatter like it supposed to, I guess it adheres to well. Works just as well over glitter polish as smooth enamel. Next time I let the man use it, I think I will try a clear top or bottom coat for him first. I adore this stuff, and apparently it sells out quickly, so if you see a bottle, you should snatch it up with a quickness!
These all have interference that makes them coordinate. Maiden Locks has a subtle green interference, Ondine's Tail has a green interference, and Dragon Scale has a gold interference. I wear these together sometimes. I love how wearing two colors together that I could NEVER wear alone, balance each other out to look gorgeous!
