This book (is it still in print? If not it SHOULD BE!) is a big, big favorite of the littles I babysat, ages 4 months to about age 2.5 years. It has a happy ending and the illustrations are endearing. Love this book! Makes a great gift!

I love penguins, so when I saw this at a used book sale I had to have it for my son. He’s 15 months and is obsessed. It’s a sweet, simple story for very young kids. The larger size and thick pages make it great for little hands plus the touch and feel aspect. Great book for little ones!

This book follows a baby penguin searching for it's mommy. He meets a variety of animals and points out their original traits (teeth, feathers, etc) to notice that they are not his mommy. In addition to the penguin on the cover of the book, every picture of the penguin is fuzzy, including his mommy at the end. The tounge of the giraffe is also fuzzy. The illustrations are raised and invite the child to touch and feel the difference between the fuzzy and bumpy. Great for tactile learning. The illustrations are large and fill most the page. They are colorful and fun for children to look at. I love the artwork... very inviting. The pages are doubled up and extremely sturdy, not exactly a board book, but much stronger than regular paper. This book is a standard at our bedtime story reading. Often I find my 21 month old stroking the penguin and "talking" to him about finding his mommy. When she gets to the end where it shows his mommy and him together, she happily tells him there is his mommy. I love the book, I love how it opens a new world to my child. I love how she loves it.

My daughter received this book for her first birthday...she is now 2 yo. She adores this book, this book has been in constant rotation since she received it. It's a touch & feel book which she loves & she just loves seeing all of the different animals & saying which ones they are. Very easy to follow & an easy read for a toddler. I highly recommend it.

Someone gifted my daughter this book and she has loved it from 6 months plus. She is 11 months now and we read it every day more than 3-4 times a day sometimes. The book is about a baby penguin looking for its mommy and encounters all these other animlas in his search. The illustrations are absolutely amazing. Every animal has some texture you can touch and feel. Definitely buy this one for your child.

My 8 month old loves this book, she'll pick it up over and over again for me to read. She feels the animals on the pages and turns the pages. Its a sweet story with a happy ending! :)

I bought this book several years ago after my son's mother moved away and basically stopped all contact with her child who was 4 at the time. The book wasn't really appropriate for him at the time, because he wasn't yet asking the hard questions so I put it up on a shelf and saved it until it was the right time. But now he's 7 and wondering frequently how to get his mom to come back and wondering why she never calls or writes to him, and this is the perfect time for this book. It doesn't give the answer to where your mom went or why she left, because for many that's often unknown and won't change the situation, instead it focuses on taking comfort in what you do have.

My grandson is 4. We have had custody of him for 2 years. He is starting to ask questions and I was hoping this book could help me with answering them. However, it is not really geared for small ones. I am not sure I care for the talking toy idea either. It adds a not real element to our very real situation.
