PrankvsPrank , also known as PvP , is a YouTube channel created by Jesse Michael Wellens [3] and his then-girlfriend Jennifer "Jeana" Smith. [4] [5] In 2007, the two began to play pranks on each other and post videos of the pranks on websites, eventually forming a channel on YouTube. [6] The channel has more than 1.8 billion video views and more than 10.2 million subscribers as of February 2017. [7] After Wellens and Smith split in May 2016, Wellens became the sole user of the channel.

Wellens had filmed Smith attempting the cinnamon challenge and posted a video on the Internet, starting the serial pranking of each other. The videos show how they prepare the pranks for each other and record their reaction afterwards.

In 2012, Wellens and Smith appeared as Spartan King Leonidas I and Queen Gorgo in the web series Epic Rap Battles of History , in season two, episode 2 "Master Chief vs. Leonidas". [8]

On April 1, 2013, USA Today rated PrankvsPrank YouTube's best pranksters. [9]

On September 25, 2013, Wellens (as "Chip Chocolate") released a rap song on iTunes called "Cookie Dance". Produced by Les Professionnels, [10] the song peaked at #68 on the UK Singles Chart and was number one in Sweden for a couple of weeks. [11] [12]

On September 17, 2015, PrankvsPrank won the Streamy Award for the Best Prank Show. [13]

In 2016, Wellens and Smith hosted a YouTube Red original series titled Prank Academy , where they taught celebrities how to pull off pranks and graded the individual outcomes. The series premiered on March 30, 2016, and concluded on July 20, 2016. While the full-length episodes were only available to YouTube Red subscribers, Wellens and Smith provided condensed versions featuring the highlights of the pranks free of charge to the public.

On April 11, 2016, PrankvsPrank won the Shorty Award for the Best YouTube Ensemble. [14]

After Wellens and Smith split in May 2016, Wellens continued posting on PrankvsPrank as a solo effort, while Smith posted on BFvsGF .

Smith and Wellens also have a channel on YouTube called BFvsGF . On BFvsGF , they posted videos about their lives on a daily basis from 2012 until May 19, 2016. [4] The videos often show them walking around Philadelphia , visiting New York City , or traveling with Contiki Tours . The videos also have frequent guest appearances by other YouTubers, including Louis Cole , Roman Atwood , Alli Speed, Andy Milonakis and Charles Trippy .

It was on this channel that Smith and Wellens introduced the character Chip Chocolate with the video "Fruit Assassin". [15] BFvsGF has more than 9.3 million subscribers and 2.7 billion video views, as of February 2017. [16]

On May 18, 2016, Wellens and Smith announced on BFvsGF they have decided to place their relationship on "hiatus" and they would be taking a break from vlogging for the foreseeable future. They cited relationship problems and stress from daily vlogging as factors for this break. Wellens announced he would be moving to New York, with Smith remaining in Philadelphia. [17]

On March 5, 2019, Smith announced that she will be launching an online talk show on BFvsGF , titled Jenuine Talk , where she will discuss various real-life topics with guest stars, having shot two episodes over the winter. [18]

The incessant rise of YouTube bloggers remains a mystery to many. A 21-minute breakdown of YouTube superstar Zoella removing items from a Boots carrier bag that has been viewed more than two million times being a case in point.
But while it can be hard to see what all the fuss is about, there is no denying the clout these social media stars have. With many YouTubers earning millions of pounds before their 21st birthdays and Zoella’s book becoming the fastest selling debut novel since records began, it is clear they hold leverage with such loyal fanbases.
But there is a darker side to this fame. In recording where they go, what they do, and what they think for the world to see, YouTube personalities run the risk of also harnessing the followings of individuals obsessed with every aspect of their day-to-day existence
Like human commodities, YouTube couples create, monetise and trademark their personal lives and online identities. But as the recent breakup of famed YouTube couple Jesse Wellens and Jeana Smith proved, it isn’t always happy clappy behind the scenes.

Here is a look at those power YouTube couples who have felt the pressure of social media fame.
The internet went into a frenzy when Wellens and Smith, who are best known their YouTube account Bf vs Gf, announced their breakup just days ago . To the great distress of their fans, the couple said it was not possible to maintain their partnership in a poignant 10-minute clip titled ‘A New Chapter’ which saw them both in tears. In the video, which has been watched more than five million times, they explained that it was the pressure and stress of vlogging which ultimately led to the collapse of their relationship.
“The weight of our relationship is the weight of our careers is the weight of our whole lives and that pressure is not good for a relationship,” Wellens said in the video. “Everybody thinks everything's perfect, that we have a perfect life, and it's really not at all,” Smith added. ”Everybody has problems, everybody has issues but we choose not to put that in the videos usually.”
This particular YouTube couple differ from the rest in that they are less a twosome and more an entire family. Hailing from Cork in Ireland, Jonathan and Anna Saccone-Joly have been filming their children Eduardo and Emilia from the literal moment they were born and their daily videos documenting everything from bath time, trips to the supermarket to cooking supper have garnered just over one million subscribers. Some younger fans have become so fixated by their day-to-day lives they've penned fan fiction about being adopted by them.
But being under the constant scrutiny of the camera has also proved difficult at times. After the Saccone-Joly’s decided to film the birth of their daughter Emilia and post the video online, they received a number of vicious comments from trolls.
“Some of the comments were horrible. We told our viewers in advance that we were going to film our daughter’s birth. People said they were hoping we would have a miscarriage or that our baby would be stillborn,” Jonathan told The Daily Mail . “Emilia had to be induced so people were saying it was so pathetic that Anna couldn’t push her baby out. One Irish TV show slated us last week saying it was ‘disgusting’.”
This isn't the only example of trolling the couple has been subject to. Anna has said she was forced to have counselling after being sent abuse from multiple accounts on a daily basis.
Alfie and Zoella, also known as ‘Zalfie’, live in a five-bedroom, £1m mansion in Brighton, run a multi-million pound YouTube empire, with 15 million subscribers between them, and have amassed nearly a billion combined views across their two channels. As you’d imagine, YouTube aficionados cannot get enough of ‘Zalfie’. So much so that one somewhat surreal video where they quiz each other on how well they know one another has gained over 15 million views.
But this does have its downsides. The unrelenting pressure of being a so-called power couple means fans are so obsessed that the couple has complained of harassment . They say they have seen fans peering over their garden wall and turning up at their home to take pictures and catch a glimpse of the pair and eventually issued a plea for privacy on Twitter.
Greg and Mitch are the guys behind the massively popular ASAP Science YouTube series. The two have been a couple for seven years and first met as biology undergraduates at university. But while they might have first come out at high school, they were forced to come out for a second time after becoming famous and being constantly scrutinised by the public. They both received a barrage of homophobic comments and trolling online.
“We've also experienced a lot of negativity and discussions around our sexuality, and therefore, we felt the need to sort of come out... again,” Greg explains in the video titled “Coming Out Twice.”

You love YouTube stars Jesse Wellens and Jeana Smith's YouTube channel, BFvsGF, for their hilarious pranks, funny challenges, and their daily vlogs defining relationship #goals. Even though they've gone through some ups and downs ( like Jesse's recent loss of his mother ), they always seemed so happy together, and even this week, they've been posting vids of of their super fun trip to Machu Picchu , Peru.
Which is why their latest video "A New Chapter", announcing that they're taking a break from their channel and each other after seven years, will come as a shock.
In the emotional video, Jesse and Jeana get brutally honest about how, although they love each other and always will, the pressures of daily vlogging as a couple ultimately affected their relationship.
"Daily vlogging, you think is fun and games. I'm not going to sit here and bash daily vlogging, but this is the honest truth," explains Jesse. "In the beginning, it's really fun. It's awesome. I love it. I still love it. But when it gets to the point where it starts to feel like a job and you're not doing things because you love the person, you're doing them for a vlog. That puts a huge burden on the relationship and you start losing focus... That's toxic for any relationship."
But like all breakups, the couple admits they don't have answers.
"I think a lot of you aren't going to understand and want answers," Jeana says. "And you might want to look back at old videos and try to figure it out, but there's nothing to figure out. I don't even understand this."
They both insist the break is no one's fault, but just what they need to do to stay healthy. Jesse is moving to New York, while Jeana is staying in Philadelphia. They're not sure exactly what's going to happen between them or with their channel, but they know they still want to make vids together in the future. All they ask from their loyal viewers is for support.
"If you love us, just give us support in whatever comes. It's all I can ask," Jeana says in closing.
Watch Jesse and Jeana's emotional video below:
Everyone deserves to be happy, and if that means this beloved YouTube couple has to take a break, then they deserve our support. Best of luck to them, whatever comes next.
