The story of Romeo and Juliet is probably the most famous love story in the world. Shakespearean characters created with beautiful poetry and powerful imagery lived during the particular historical epoch. The events took place in Verona, a northern Italian city. Such plays as The Two Gentlemen of Verona and The Taming of the Shrew were also set in Verona. Many places in the city are a part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Tourists can visit a lot of places connected with Shakespeare and his characters in the city, even the famous balcony from Romeo and Juliet.

My father was an ArmyOfficer stationed in Verona. I was 4 , I could look out my window and see the the Capulet. Castle . My y favorite story was then read to me nightly from the encyclopedia. When my parents took our family to tour the tomb, I was terrified and stayed with a little Italian man at the entrance.Later We dined on turtle soup in the Capulet castle that had been converted to a fine dining restaurant. Sorry I have no recollection of the Montaigne castle

Tourism 101 - arbitrarily "connect" places in your city to famous works of literature. I can assure you, neither Juliet Capulet NOR Romeo Montague EVER stood upon "the famous balcony from "Romeo and Juliette""!
I have to laugh whenever someone mis-reads the line, "Romeo, Oh, Romeo; Wherefore art thou Romeo?" as if they are looking for him, and asking where he is. "Wherefore art thou" doesn't mean "where are you", it means "why are you"! As in "WHY are you Romeo?" As in a member of the household that is her family's greatest enemy! (She goes on to say, "Refuse thy father and deny thy name" to hammer that point home.) In another play, Claudius asks Hamlet "Wherefore art thou sad?" - he is not asking where he goes to cry at night, but WHY he is sad. Yes, I used to teach Shakespeare... Sorry...
