WhatsTone Privacy Policy
OVERVIEW
WhatsTone is a Chrome extension that rewrites messages typed in WhatsApp Web using an AI provider chosen by the user. This policy explains what data is processed and stored.
MESSAGE TEXT
Message text is sent only to the AI provider selected in Settings (Google Gemini, xAI Grok, or DeepSeek), and only when the user clicks Edit or Refresh. WhatsTone does not store message text, message history, or drafts in a database, extension storage, logs, or on a server. The text is held in page memory only for the active request, Refresh, and Undo, and is lost when the page is reloaded.
SETTINGS AND API KEYS
WhatsTone stores the selected provider, model, tone, interface language, and toolbar visibility in chrome.storage.sync. If Chrome Sync is enabled, Chrome may sync these non-secret preferences to the user's Google account. They do not contain message text or API keys.
API keys are stored in chrome.storage.local and are restricted to trusted extension contexts. They are not synced by WhatsTone and are sent only to the selected provider as an authentication header.
AI PROVIDERS
Google Gemini, xAI Grok, and DeepSeek process message text under their own terms and privacy policies. WhatsTone does not control provider-side retention, logging, or training practices. Review the selected provider's policy before sending sensitive content.
NO AUTOMATIC SENDING
WhatsTone never clicks Send, presses Enter, or sends a message. The user reviews the rewritten text and sends it manually.
NO ANALYTICS
WhatsTone operates no server, database, analytics service, or telemetry endpoint. It does not collect browsing activity, clipboard data, or message history.
INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS AND KVKK
Messages go directly from the browser to the selected provider. Providers may process data outside Turkey or the European Economic Area. WhatsTone itself does not receive or store message text. If you use the extension to process other people's personal data, you are responsible for having a lawful basis and complying with applicable data protection rules, including cross-border transfer requirements. Do not use it for special categories of personal data without a lawful basis.
PERMISSIONS
storage: saves preferences and API keys locally.
Host access to web.whatsapp.com: adds the toolbar and reads or replaces the message composer text only when the user requests a rewrite.
Host access to the AI provider endpoints: sends the user-initiated rewrite request to the selected provider.
RETENTION
WhatsTone retains no message content. It retains settings and API keys until the user removes them, clears extension storage, or uninstalls the extension. Provider-side retention is governed by the selected provider's policy.
