How to Unlock your Vehicle
Modern electronic key fobs offer more functionality and are more convenient when compared to manual keys. However, they do require batteries that eventually degrade over time and will require replacement. If your Volvo key fob has started to malfunction intermittently, it's an indication that the battery is getting old and will need replacing soon.
Fortunately, there are some simple steps that you can follow to replace your Volvo key fob battery at your own expense. Find a clean surface to work on. Lay out all the tools that you'll require. Find the battery hatch and make sure that it is set to "open." Use a flathead screwdriver, coin or a similar tool to open the hatch wide. Then, carefully remove the battery out of its socket by lifting it on the side closest to the key-ring loop. Use rubber gloves to shield the clips and electronic contact surfaces.
After the battery is removed, insert the new battery into its socket. Make sure that the positive side of the battery is facing upwards, and that all clips are secured. Slide the cover towards the key-ring portion until it loosens and slides off. Uncover the cover and reveal the hidden key blade. You can use it to unlock your car from the driver's door when you've lost or damaged the key fob.
How to Start Your Vehicle
Modern vehicles are equipped with key fobs that do more than just unlock and lock the doors. They can also perform useful functions such as summoning and auto parking the vehicle. The latest Volvo XC60 is capable of remotely starting your engine by using its key fob buttons. What exactly does volvo xc60 keys do?

Inject the blade of a screwdriver or pry bar tool into the slot and gently pry open the rear of the fob that holds the key. After the fob is open, locate the CR2032 3V battery and remove it. Replace the battery and snap back to the fob.
Note: Some older Volvos use a different battery which is the CR2025. CR2025 batteries have 7 tenths of one millimeter lower than a CR2032 and you'll have to be very careful when replacing your battery.
