When another escalation breaks out in the Middle East, it is usually not the politicians who react first, but the markets. For countries that are completely dependent on oil imports, this always means rising costs and instability in energy supplies.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the escalation in the region will push the price of a barrel up: from the current $ 71–$72 to $95, and in the worst case scenario — to $110. The whole problem lies in the Strait of Hormuz, through which up to 40% of the world's maritime oil trade passes.

Since the Serbs buy oil at Mediterranean prices, the jump will automatically affect the cost of fuel within the country. And for the authorities, this is not only an economic challenge, but also a political one. Rising fuel prices traditionally increase social tension and cause an already active protest movement.
