The source was laconic: the new iPad Air and iMac are inexpensive, about the same size as the current 10.5-inch iPad Air and 21.5-inch iMac. The 21.5-inch iMac for those who are not indifferent to this kind of apple computers, a lot of complaints. For several years now, several Apple teams have been working on a completely new iMac model and with inhuman “fruit”, they had at their disposal laboratories, test benches, experimental production of miniLED displays and all that was needed. Because of the coronavirus, everything has changed: quarantine, self-isolation, closure of offices and production sites.

 It is impossible to recreate the infrastructure and guarantee a high-quality product at a distance. On the other hand, iMac sales may fall if nothing is done. They have too many problems that have not been solved for years - this year Apple may not get away with it.

New iMac 2020

If the Taiwanese newspaper China Times did not come up with a 23-inch iMac itself, which by the way is not out of the question - there are hundreds of iMac in its edition, then everything is very serious. The appearance of information about the new iMac on its pages means that it is already being dealt with in Taiwan. What is it preparing for production. All the flaws of the 21.5-inch 2019 iMac (4K) that can be fixed quickly and painlessly will be fixed. He will undergo cosmetic surgery to reduce the frames around the screen. This is more complicated than it seems to amateurs: you have to integrate a larger display into the design of your computer.

Judging by the increased diagonal size and the same (or about the same) size of the new iMac, this has already been done. The working space of the screen will increase, noticeably (from the side), but not too much (in fact).

 You can save the ability to install a hard disk at the request of the client. Simplify access to RAM and drives. The wow effect from this would be no less than from a larger screen, but most likely this will not be done. The case of the 21.5-inch iMac is calculated with the “fruit” thoroughness, extra holes are not provided in it.

Features of the new 23-inch iMac

In one of the first places in the fantasies of outsiders - a radical change in design. The new design is in the style of the Apple Pro XDR Display, with almost the same stance as it has, tilt adjustment and the ability to rotate to change orientation. Almost miniLED or just miniLED (though they didn’t prepare for the production of mini-LED displays with a diagonal of 23 at the plants in Wuxi, but all of a sudden?), The iMac case with a lid on the latch.

 All peripherals, access to which it is desirable to provide the user, with the lid open, should be in full view. Support for Face ID, which will require a very high-quality camera on the front of the iMac. It’s almost impossible to integrate Face ID into a Mac without switching to apple production processors. Switching to your own chips is just around the corner; there is no point in wasting time and effort developing Face ID for an almost foreign architecture.

 But this will happen no earlier than in 2021, there are very serious reasons for this - therefore, even in dreams “without brakes” we will have to abandon Face ID.

 Unfortunately, neither a radical design change (the style of the Apple Pro XDR Display), nor miniLED or almost miniLED, nor the budget version of the Apple Pro Display XDR rack, are possible. The China Times writes about the inexpensive 23-inch iMac, but with the frills that are mentioned above, this is incompatible.
