What is web design ?

Web design is the process of creating websites. It encompasses many diverse facets, including page layout, content production, and graphic design. While the terms web design and webdevelopment are often used interchangeably, web design is a sub set of the broader group of web development.

Sites are created using a markup language identified as HTML. Web designers build webpages using HTML tags which specify the content and metadata of each page. The layout and appearance of the elements in just a webpage have been usually characterized using CSS, or cascading style sheets. So, most websites include a combination of HTML and CSS that defines how each page can look in a browser.

This type of editor gives a visual interface for designing your webpage design and the computer software automatically creates the corresponding HTML and CSS code. Still another popular way to create web sites is by using an content management system like WordPress or Joomla. These services provide different website templates that can be used as a starting point for a new site. Web-masters can then add content and customize the design working with a web-based interface.

While HTML and CSS are used to create the look and feel of a site, graphics needs to be generated separately. Therefore, graphicdesign can resonate with web design, since graphic artists regularly create pictures for use on the net.
