Files that contain the .fb2 file extension are most commonly associated with FictionBook 2.0 files. The FB2 file format is an XML-based eBook format.
In an FB2 file, XML is used to describe each element of the associated eBook. These eBooks can then be read on Windows, Unix and Pocket PC operating platforms. Unlike other eBook formats, the FB2 files consist consist of just a single XML file.
Almost all of the eBooks that are published in the FB2 file format are fictional in nature. This particular eBook format originated in Russia, gaining popularity there before spreading out to other countries.
