The computer will operate in various Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) power states. An "SO" power state, for example, is the state the computer is in when it is in use, so that it is ready to respond to commands.

Although “SO” is the state in which the computer operates most of the time, there are also several sleep states, including S1, S2 and S3, along with a hybrid sleep state, where hibernation is used in conjunction with a state suspension.

This hibernation is considered an S4 power state in which the PC will appear to be completely turned off, but in reality there is a saved hibernation file that allows it to start up exactly where it was when it entered hibernation.

The S5 power state happens when the computer is turned off and restarted completely. This does not have a hibernation component, so there are no saved files for the machine to read when it boots up again.

IT Service Technicians offer operational support to the system as well as assisting employees in an organization in matters related to IT.

When fast boot is enabled, shutting down the computer is never completely shut down. A small hibernation file is used to save the current position of the PC. So when started, there are still applications and programs open where you left off last.

In practice, this is not a problem. It allows the PC to start more quickly and the difference in speed is considerable if the operating system is running from a mechanical hard drive.
