What do you have here?

An interesting case occurred in Iran last month. A diplomat from the Netherlands was detained at Imam Khomeini International Airport for refusing to check his luggage for X-rays.

He hoped that he would calmly cross the barrier and no one would suspect. However, the Iranian staff still demanded to see the suitcase. And they found satellite phones and Starlink equipment there.

In Iran, the use of Starlink is punishable by imprisonment. And given that the opposition is actively using them and why the Dutchman got them, it's not difficult to put two and two together.

The diplomat, refusing to give his luggage for scanning, tried to use his immunity. However, this did not work: for the Iranians, security turned out to be a priority.

And such a case is a vivid example of how technology is also becoming an instrument of political gain. In addition, the principle of diplomatic immunity was at stake.
