What NOT To Do In The Upvc Replacement Door Handles Industry

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time the handles on your doors will wear down and need to be changed. It is essential to keep the same dimensions as the old handles when replacing them.

The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw's position the lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to help you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever door handle is a modern handle that can be put in on replacement or new doors. This type door handle is available in a variety of styles and finishes. This handle is offered by several manufacturers, including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The handles of uPVC/Composite are constructed of tough materials and are ideal for doors with multiple points that require a strong design. The handles are inline, and use the same screws and spindle to fix them. They can be easily mounted on a new or existing uPVC/Composite door.

The sprung lever design allows the handle to be placed and angled to ensure a comfortable experience and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles. This helps ensure that the finish is of high quality and performance will last for a long time. The sprung lever can be shortened to fit a wider range of locks. This is useful in doors that are narrower, where the cylinder is situated further back in the door. A lever that is shorter can be used on doors that have a latch that can be opened by the thumb inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently to the lever type handles found on most doors. These handle types can either use a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side by using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are commonly employed on UPVC doors with double glazing. They are available in a range of finishes & variations.

The handles are available in various finishes, including White, Chrome, and Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. This gives the handle the best performance and durability for the purpose it was designed for.

All of the UPVC handle lever pad styles come with a spindle and screws that allow them to be installed on any new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixation centres of 211mm allow for a wider handle, which is often a benefit when replacing an old or faulty multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have a spring, which solves the problem of handles for doors that slide out of the horizontal position when not being used.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often known as the "handle centre" or "cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect to match the right handles.

After you have determined the correct PZ size it is important to ensure that the lever and push pads are shaped to match the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles that you need for your door. These are typically square or round with an internal lever and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC Lever Pads we sell are spring-loaded. This means that they return to a horizontal state when not being used instead of hanging, and possibly securing to the frame. This stops draughts from entering the building. It is also the case that the majority of UPVC lever pad handles are handed which allows you to place them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of doors. Cylinder locks are operated by using a key that unlocks the cylinder's case. This reveals pins that can be aligned with those inside the lock, allowing them to turn the revolving camera, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins, with external and internal doors generally needing different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder is crucial. It depends on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. For instance, doors that are external should be fitted with an extra secure cylinder, while doors inside can be secured using an ordinary cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that can increase security, like anti-drill or anti bump properties.

A euro cylinder should be measured correctly to ensure it is the right size for your door. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, in the event that one is present. If window handles are unable to measure with the lock in position, you can remove it. It is essential to ensure that there is no extension of the cylinder beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it vulnerable to snapping lock attacks.

The design of most newer cylinders includes anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These are designed to reduce the chance of attack by forcing cylinders to turn in a different direction. This will help to prevent attacks and keep your doors safe.

Some cylinders are designed to withstand snapping. This is a typical attack on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the lock's break line and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is faster and more straightforward than gaining access through multipoint locks and leaves little evidence of a break-in, which can impede the insurance claim.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is located within the base of your door handle backplate, providing a spring solution to return your multipoint lock handles to their rest position after use. In the past, a lot of handles of this kind did not have a spring integrated into them and without this they can droop or 'drop' once the locking mechanism is disengaged. This component is the most effective way to fix this problem. It also stops your door from becoming stuck in either the closed or open position as they aren't easy to close manually.

These spring cassettes were created to be used with a spring multipoint lock. They will not fit handles that are not sprung and you'll need to cut a hole in your backplate for them to fit. (Please look at the image for a more detailed diagram). These cassettes are a solution to damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They feature an elongated square that allows for an 8mm spindle to be used and are sold as a set.

These spring cassettes provide an excellent value solution for the problem of door handles that are sagging. These spring cassettes are simple to install and can extend the life of your uPVC door.
