James Dean was only 24 years old when died in a car accident in 1955. His signature film he is most remembered for is “Rebel Without a Cause” which was released after his death. “East of Eden” was also released in 1955. He finished filming “Giant” released in1956, and was on his way to a car race in Salinas, Ca. with his mechanic. He was in a head on collision and died instantly. He was the first actor to be nominated for an Oscar posthumously for his role in “Giant”

Nicholas Ray in Rebel Without A Cause 1955 transformed Dean’s appeal with Blue Jeans and in a sort of hero of a post War generation incapable to rationalize and went against the current, like I believe the fact Dean wore for the first time the Jeans in a movie going against the tendency. James Dean after his death became a myth and a model for the next generations.

I would say Rebel Without A Cause was probably his big seller. Next would have been Giant, but he wasn’t the principal star..
