Costs

It can also be costly to upgrade an item to a higher tier (such as Explorer > Champion, or Veteran > Heroic).
The other is the cost of materials needed for an upgrade. These items are usually Power Dices (dropped from monsters 21+), Minerals and Erons, or specific Mists of Pandaria or Warlords of Draenor Quests. These materials can be found in the inventory of an upgrade vendor.
It takes time to upgrade an item. Depending on the size of the upgrade, it could take anywhere from 8 to 12 hours. The base stats of an upgraded item are calculated based on its new ilvl and other characteristics. This calculation determines new Armor Class bonuses, damage dice, and other important statistics. In some instances, an upgrade can grant additional perks. These perks are available in a list.
In rare cases the upgrade will replace only the highest-costing perks. Occasionally, the upgrader will make other adjustments to an item, for example, changing the type of weapon damage or removing or adding an unwieldy or operational property. The cost for these modifications is determined by the item's current ilvl and it may require a special material like the adamantine alloy.
Success Rate
The upgrading of an item is dependent on the chance. Like any random system, there is a possibility that it will not succeed. However there are a few things which can improve the odds of success. This includes the use of an item called an Upgrade Pity or the addition of additional components to the upgrade.
The Upgrade Pity can be purchased through the NPC for crafting in Lost Ark. It increases the chances of an upgrade being successful by a certain percentage. It is similar to the luck bonus that some items come with however it is more stable. This can be added to any weapon or armor and is used three times.
You can also add additional components to the upgrade to increase the chances of success. The materials are displayed in a separate window above the + button. There are some limitations. The maximum amount of material you can add is shown directly above the + button.
Another method to increase the chance of a successful upgrade is to use an item known as Blacksmith Blessing or an upgraded version of it. This item can be helpful in the event that your item or weapon is close to or has reached the top level of its tier. This item will allow you upgrade the equipment to the next tier without the risk of it breaking.
If an upgrade fails it will be restored to its original state. This is typically a break, but could also be a downgrade. Keep an upgrade in reserve until you're close to the maximum level for an item.
Kafra has a number of items that can be utilized in order to increase the likelihood of a successful upgrade. You can boost your chances of success by upgrading your equipment repeatedly using HD Oridecon and HD Elunium. In the same way, increasing the likelihood to receive a Double Mint from Shoe-Minting a maximum of five times will also increase the chance of success.
