The training includes both instruction in the classroom and hands-on riding. Make sure you arrive at the right time, as tardy arrivals could cause disruption to the class' schedule.
Classroom Instruction

This class is a combination of classroom instruction and real instruction in the operation of a motorcycle or scooter in an off-street, controlled setting. The BRC is geared towards beginner riders and will help you avoid MVC's road test. It also teaches you street techniques, such as maximising brake effectiveness, maneuvering in tight situations, passing, and avoiding hazards.
The five-hour ePackage 1 (eP1) can be taken as a standalone program or as a prelude to the BRC's hands on portion. The eCourse includes videos, interactive lessons and illustrations to help you experience the fundamentals of motorcycling. You may qualify for insurance discounts if you successfully complete the course.
The ePackage 1 must be completed in 30 days from the start date of your BRC course to earn the certificate and take part in the riding skill evaluation. If the eCourse isn't completed and the course is not completed, no refund will be granted. Participants must possess a valid driver's license in order to take part in the BRC.
The CLASS program is a two-day riding class that allows you to further develop your riding skills in a safe and secure riding setting using a street legal scooter or motorcycle provided by the school. The class is taught by MSF certified instructors. The emphasis is on developing your confidence, skills, and understanding of the operating system of your scooter or motorcycle. The class includes classroom instruction, riding drills and a riding skill evaluation.
The course is based on the lessons of Reg Pridmore, three-time AMA Superbike Champion and his hand-picked team of instructors. Their ideas have been refined through 50 years of riding, racing and teaching. These concepts are conveyed in a simple way to make them easy to grasp and apply. The result is a confident, capable and safer rider.
Practice Range
A significant portion of your motorcycle school will be held on a practice range, where you can refine and test your riding abilities in a controlled setting. The range is generally closed to traffic so you can practice safely. Your RiderCoach will walk you through the fundamental control and procedures of your vehicle prior to sending you out on the range. At the end of each session your RiderCoach will evaluate you on five skill-based evaluation exercises that cover maneuvers with limited space as well as braking and cornering. If you pass the riding skills assessment, you'll receive a BRC Road Test Waiver Completion Card.
It's essential to bring your motorcycle safety gear to class -Your RiderCoach will provide helmets for students who don't have them, but be sure to wear a DOT-approved helmet. You should also wear long pants with a non-flare material, full fingered gloves, over-the-ankle boots or shoes and eye protection.
During the course of a motorcycle safety course it is likely that you will spend approximately five hours in the classroom, learning the fundamentals of your bike and its operation before you go out for a ride on the range. When you arrive, your instructor will help you develop your riding skills by guiding you through straight-line riding, shifting and turning as you progress to more advanced maneuvers, like emergency brakes and swerving. The course will end with a final assessment of your riding skills. You'll receive an award and may be eligible for a motorcycle discount.
In many states, completing an online safety course for motorcycles is the only way for new riders to get their licenses. Visit your local DMV to see if the course is required or recommended. If it is, be sure to enroll in a Motorcycle Safety Foundation-approved program, which can often be used as an exemption to the road test by the DMV.

The MSF Basic RiderCourse can be taken in a variety locations across the country. This course combines approximately 5 hours of classroom training and 10 hours on the bike. It is the quickest method of obtaining a motorcycle licence and may also be eligible for an insurance discount.
Feedback from the Instructor
"The instructors were very knowledgeable and professional. They genuinely take care of their students and that is evident. They will teach you the basics of riding a motorbike. This class is highly recommended for every motorcyclist, no matter what age or experience.
The instruction in the classroom was informative and thought-provoking. The riding instruction consisted of theory and practice, but the main highlight was the feedback from the instructor. They didn't simply say "OK", but they gave you the reasons why you did it wrong. For example, "You looked down at the handlebars", "You gave it too many gas", "Your wrists are bent", "You shifted too early", or "You weren’t pushing down on your foot peg". Then they showed you how to repair it.
This kind of personal coaching is what you can expect in a top-quality training program and is what sets this class from many other classes. Some riders may be a bit harsh, but I believe it is necessary to give students the best chance of passing the test and riding safely.
I've taken other courses in the past and there was no individual feedback from the instructor. There's no reason for instructors to have the final say on whether a student can pass the course unless they're an obvious threat or obstructing other students within the group.
In my opinion, any motorcycle school that doesn't provide individualized coaching is missing a key element of its curriculum. It does not deserve the acclaim it receives in student reviews. The most efficient way to learn quickly and safely is to take the Basic RiderCourse followed by private lessons. That way you will learn from a professional and avoid the pitfalls of bad habits and begin your journey with confidence and the skills that will serve you well for years of riding enjoyment. A majority of states will waive the written and riding license endorsement tests for those who have completed a certified RiderCourse and some insurance companies offer discounts to those who successfully complete a course.
Final Exam
In the second part of the class, you'll learn road skills, including braking and accelerating and changing gears, turning, and steering. This portion of the class is held until you're able be able to pass a riding skill evaluation. This part of the class will determine if you will be issued a motorcycle license waiver card. The test will include the maneuvers that an DMV driver's examiner is looking for during your driver's test. It's okay if you don't pass the test. Keep up the great work and strive to get it right the next time.
If you pass the test the instructor will give you a certificate that can be used for a motorcycle insurance reduction. You will be a licensed motorcyclist and can legally operate your bike on the street.
The MSF 3-wheel BRC, a research-based program that is action-oriented, has been designed to teach new 3 wheel motorcyclists (of all age groups) the physical and mental abilities they require to ride safely on the streets.
