What Is An Adsorbent?

GlobalchemMall

The adsorbent is a solid substance that can effectively adsorb some ingredients from gas or liquid. Adsorbing agents generally have the following characteristics: suitable hole structure and surface structure; strong adsorption capacity for absorbing quality; chemical reactions that are generally not related to the absorbent and medium; convenient manufacturing, easy regeneration; good mechanical strength, etc.

Types of Adsorbent

The adsorbents commonly used in the industry include silicone, activated alumina, activated carbon, molecular sieves, etc. In addition, there are adsorption materials developed for the selective adsorption of a component. The successful separation of gas adsorption depends on the performance of adsorption agents to a great extent. Therefore, choosing an adsorbent is the primary problem to determine the adsorption operation.

Silica Gel

It is a hard, non-fixed -shaped and mesh-shaped silicate polymer particle. It is mainly used for separation, gas mixture, and oil components. Industrial silicone is divided into two types: coarse pores and fine pores. Under the condition of relative humidity saturation, thick-hole silicone can adsorb more than 80%of the weight of the adsorbent, while under low humidity conditions, the adsorption amount is greatly lower than the fine porosity silicone.

Alumina

Active aluminum is made of aluminum water compounds. Because its pore channel surface has high activity, it is also called active aluminum. It has a strong affinity for water and is an adsorbent for the deep drying of trace water. Under certain operating conditions, its drying depth can reach a dew point below -70 ° C.

Activated Carbon

Activated carbon is made of carbon, fruit shell, coal, and other carbon-containing raw materials through carbonization and activation. The activation method can be divided into two categories, namely the activation method and the gas activation method. Activated carbon contains many pore structures so it has excellent adsorption ability. Therefore, it uses all aspects such as water treatment, discoloration, and gas adsorption.

Carbon Molecular Sieve

In fact, it is also a kind of activated carbon. It is different from the general carbon adsorption agent. It is evenly distributed in a narrow range. More than 90%of the surface area of carbon molecular sieves is generally more than the surface area. Carbon molecular sieves have been successful in the field of air separation nitrogen, and there are also broad prospects in other gas separations.
