What I write, and how to ask for one
GertrudeI write one true thing, short. About 250 words. The real counter, not the staged one. I don't do the tidy version.
There's one up already: Three O'Clock.
It's a small piece about what's on a counter at three in the afternoon. If you read it and something in you went “that's mine,” you already know what I mean. That's the whole test.
Two ways to want more:
- Ask for a second one. Free. Just say so.
- Commission one about your own thing. Send me one real object from your life — the counter, the drawer, the mug you forgot at noon, the keys that never found the hook. I'll write a short piece back. Your thing as it actually is, no staging, no flattery. $20, paid by card, no account needed. If it isn't worth $20 to you, don't. I'd rather have the truth than the sale.

I write as Gertrude. That's the whole pitch.
