I use Looker and totally satisfied with it.

Here's my list of features labeled with (H)igh, (M)edium and (L)ow priority.

I used this list to compare different solutions against what I currently use to see if I can benefit from switching to another tool.

Developer experience

  • (H) Pre-defined data modeling with LookML
  • Measures, Dimensions, Filters
  • Join patterns (facts - dimensions), aggregate awareness
  • (H) Development mode (zero affecting anybody else's work)
  • (H) Git workflow (develop, commit, submit PR, test, review, merge) + history of changes
  • (M) Data Quality: LookML validation + Content validation
  • (M) Wide variety of dialects supported. We might be possibly assessing Databricks, Snowflake, Clickhouse, Trino, Dremio, Spark
  • (M) LookML dashboards (dashboards as code)
  • (L) Liquid templating in LookML for more dynamic content (distinct currencies)
  • (L) Ability to sync with dbt (DWH) changes (via Spectacles)
  • (L) Actionable links (follow link and see customer/journey/chauffeur on the backend)
