I uploaded a series of files that I created specifically to use as background images for upcoming renders. The current batch of photos that I am posting is from a trip I recently took to Patagonia and Atacama in Chile. As I composed and took pictures during the trip, I thought about what would be useful as source images for backgrounds and Cyclorama textures. With that in mind, I took a bunch of empty landscape shots, along with the usual tourist pictures I have of myself and my traveling companions. Tonight I picked out the files that I consider the best candidates to use as source images for other projects and re-named them for future reference. The pictures are specifically designed to be cropped or re-sized as needed, which I will certainly be doing as I use them to make textures. A quick note: I wasn't planning to log on today, but I have been making some changes to the current picture series I am working on. I deleted several recently-posted images, after having re-rendered them due to the addition of a fourth back-up dancer to my group. Initially I decided to make the change because I felt that the symmetry in the images worked better with four dancers instead of three. There will be a few changes in the plot-line as well and hopefully an improved set of renders.

I came across a DA profile that was opened a few days ago and featured hundreds of images that obviously came from various commercial websites. My reaction was: "come-on, seriously?" A lot of the images still had their vendor watermarks, so we are not talking about anything other than blatant image theft. I am not a big DRM advocate, but such blatant posting of material that is obviously copy-right protected is a threat to the rest of us who are trying to simply express ourselves online. The abuse offers puritans a great justification for imposing more censorship and leads to situations like what happened to Tumblr, where a "let's just delete everything" mentality took hold. I consider that posting older images that are public domain and have historical value is perfectly acceptable. Posting anything that is not yet public domain is clearly not acceptable. I decided to jump ahead a bit in the lives of the characters from my novel "The Outsider" and re-visit them when they are in their early 30's. I started formulating the original novel and its protagonist Ruthie Burns in 2008-2009, and recently speculated about what would have happened to the novel's main characters with the passing of 15 years. As is common with the way I create fiction and story series, one thought led to another, and I ended up with Ruthie abandoning artistic modeling and "going off the grid" to pursue her earlier goal of being a paleontologist. I am also experimenting with an updated plot-line for Ruthie's cousin Vicky, with a twist that abruptly came to me and that I want to play around with. As of mid-December 2021, I have a vague idea of where Vicky's sub-plot is going, but the details of this idea will be subject to change until I have the pictures rendered and the captions written. I left a couple of other projects hanging as this new one came to me.
