What is a bedside crib?
A bedside crib, also referred to as a bassinet, or co-sleeper is a baby cot that is attached to an adult bed. This allows your child to sleep next to you in a safe environment. This is a type of co-sleeping in a safe manner that does not increase the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) like bedsharing, and can help you bond with your newborn.
These cots often have a side that can be adjusted so that you can easily reach your newborn during the night for feeding and comforting. This is especially helpful for mothers who are recovering from a csection. Many of them are foldable or portable which means you can use them for travel and as an interim solution for infants who aren't quite ready to transition to a larger crib.

Choose a crib that has an air-conditioned mattress, as well as an appropriate cover to protect your baby from stains. You should also pick up some baby-safe add-ons such as a blanket and a soft toys.
If you're looking for a long-term option, some cribs come with conversion kits that let you turn them into a cot, or a toddler bed at the time of need. This is a great way to extend their life span and making the transition easier. Some even have a detachable top section that transforms into a bassinet, while others can be used on the regular or high-rise adult bed. This is a good choice for families that plan on traveling frequently or switching between bedrooms at night. You should also consider the size of your room to ensure that you can squeeze the crib comfortably. Many cribs have a riser that can be used to create an incline to accommodate babies with reflux.
