National Send a Nude Day is a joke hashtag and holiday dedicated to sending nude photographs. The ambiguity of the intended recipients of the photos and the broader public reaction to it helped transform it into a trend on social media.
The nude in National Send a Nude Day refers to nude photographs. The hashtag is a prompt to send such a photograph of yourself or someone else. Capitalizing on the popularity of “national days” like #NationalPizzaDay or #NationalPuppyDay on social media, the internet witnessed many efforts to make National Send a Nude Day ( #NationalSendANudeDay ) a trend throughout the 2010s. The earliest attempt was October 5, 2012. It didn’t take off, receiving only a few tweets from the user who created it. One user tried for January 16, 2013; another aimed for August 17, 2013.
On April 22, 2014, one Twitter user tried a variant, #NationalSendYourManNudesDay, which got a considerable number of retweets, received some media coverage, and was even referred to as # NationalSendANudeDay . Yet another effort on March 22, 2016 also got a little attention as National Send a Nude Day , with the original tweet receiving 175 retweets, but it didn’t build up steam. Most of these attempts appear to have been regarded as perverse, if not predatory, pranks.
Then, on May 19, 2016, #NationalSendANudeDay finally caught fire on Twitter, perhaps sparked by its use on Instagram the previous day. Regardless of its exact spread, the hashtag caught the attention of Twitter Moments. As #NationalSendANudeDay starting ballooning on Twitter on May 19, some users sent photos of themselves or other people in various states of undress, others took the opportunity to hint to their followers that they would like to receive nudes, and yet others grew increasingly flabbergasted with the entire concept or decried it as the ploy of users desperate for nudes. Many, though, treated the event with a sense of absurdity and irony, posting pictures of sphynx cats, chicken breasts, nude shoes, classical paintings, and other creative definitions of nudes . These types of parodic “nudes” became a meme in and of themselves.
Reactions on news websites varied. Some dismissed National Send a Nude Day as a fake holiday intended to trick people into sending nude photographs. Others warned Twitter users, especially women, to be on their guard against a higher-than-average amount of inappropriate behavior. A number of sites took a more tongue-in-cheek approach in covering National Send a Nude Day , embracing the ridiculousness of the concept.
While National Send a Nude Day and its hashtag is widely used with a sense of irony, some people may use it to share or solicit graphic content.

Chances are you've heard of the term "nudes." Maybe you've read about them, or heard the phrase on a TV show, or maybe you've even sent them yourself. For those who don't know, a nude is a nude photo, one that is sent to a person over the phone, usually for sexual purposes. What you might not know about nudes, though, is that they are a lot more dangerous than you may think, and sending or receiving one could actually get you in a lot of trouble. So, before you press send on that racy pic, here's everything you need to know about sending nudes.
First off, if you don't want to send a nude, don't. There shouldn't be any pressure involved when you're sending a nude. If your crush is telling you it will make them like you more, ditch them, and find someone who will like you for you, not your nude pics (trust me, someone like that is out there). Just like sex, you should never ever send a nude if you don't feel comfortable doing it, no matter what the person on the receiving end says.
I could easily say, "don't send nudes," but abstinence-only education has never been effective. So, instead, I'm here to make sure that if you do have your mind made up about sending a nude, you're doing it as safely as possible. Number one, that means that you trust the person you're sending the nudes to. This is someone you know, someone who will not show the picture to other people, won't post it online, won't pass it around school. Don't send your photo to someone who may be vindictive or may want to seek revenge on you in the future. The act of someone posting nude pictures they have of you without your consent is known as "revenge porn" and it's a form of digital abuse.
If you trust your significant other wholeheartedly and you want to share your beautiful body with them, fine. But if there's any question about the nature of the recipient, maybe just hold off.

So, if you receive a nude of someone 16 or younger and show it to someone else, that's considered distributing child porn and it's illegal. But you can get in trouble for sending nudes too. It's illegal to send sexually explicit content to someone under the age of 17. So, even if you are of age, if you are sending something to a minor, you are committing a crime.
Again, these laws are meant to protect you, not harm you or keep you from flirting with your significant other, but that doesn't mean they won't affect you just because the act is consensual. Take some time and look over the laws with your SO before you start engaging in sexting. That way, you will know where the laws stand in regards to you and you can make an informed decision to move forward or not. If you are committing a crime by sending or receiving nudes, stop right there, just don't do it. Maybe just wait a few years and then send all of the nudes you want.
So, you're going to send a nude, but you want to do it as safely as possible, and you need to prepare for the worst. In order to do this, make those nudes anonymous. Don't include your face in the photo. Don't take it in front of something that is easily recognizable as yours like a poster with your name on it in your bedroom. And finally, if you have a distinguishable feature, like a birthmark or a tat, cover it up.

Then, there's DiscKreet , which locks up your nudes in a password protected system. In order to view the photo, both the recipient and the sender have to enter a passcode at the same time. If the recipient wants to check out the pic at a later date, they have to send a new request to the original sender.
Again, before you do anything, consider if sexting is something you want to engage in, or if you simply feel pressured to send photos. If that's the case, stop what you're doing right away. If you want to send nude photos, and you trust the recipient, consider the legal repercussions, especially if you're underage. Then, if your decision is ultimately to send a pic, stay safe, keep it anonymous, and protect the image against screenshots or hackers. I am not promoting sexting, but if you are going to do it, be smart and be safe.
