It's also capable of scheduling and running spot cleaning sessions. It performed well in standard tests, but did not perform as well as the Roomba j7+ during the carpet deep cleaning test.
You can program the S7 by using the companion app to run a cleaning cycle according to your schedule. You can select a cleaning mode, such as eco or automatic, as well as a day, week or time. You can also select whether the robot will stop if it runs out of power or comes across an obstacle.

Shark isn't as well-known for its robot vacuums as iRobot and Roborock however our experience with this model has shown it to be one of the most efficient self-emptying robot vacuums on the market. It's easy to set up and has a large bin which can be easily emptied (albeit loudly) into a trashcan once it is full. It can also be programmed to clean your entire home on a regular basis.
The IQ XL can connect to your home WiFi and allows you to monitor it through the Shark app and see its battery level as it cleans. The app lets you create a cleaning schedule and also receive push notifications on its condition as well as pause cleaning and then restart cleaning, or set it to only one area. It can also be controlled using voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The app will inform you which power mode it is currently in--Eco, Normal or Max--but we didn't find that any of these modes made a huge difference to cleaning performance.
The IQ XL will automatically empty the trash bin at the end of each cleaning cycle into the base, which will automatically empty itself. The bin can hold up to 60 days' worth of waste It won't require emptying more frequently than that, unless you own lots of pets with long hair. If you have to empty it, all you need to do is remove the side bin, hold it over a trash can, and press a button that will let you eject its contents.
The Shark IQ XL is a excellent vacuum cleaner. It does a decent job cleaning floors that are not bare and it can maneuver itself well. However it's not the best choice for carpeted floors. Shark IQ XL feels a bit less sturdy than the Roomba 694. It's effective at cleaning carpeted floors, however, it's not as effective as the iRobot Roomba i7 when it comes to the performance of bare floors. The i7 also feels more robust, more durable, requires less maintenance, has lower recurring costs, charges faster, and offers comparable battery performance. It also comes with more advanced technology for automation, such as no-go zones and the ability to select specific rooms to be cleaned.
iRobot j7+
This robot vacuum and mop combination is a rare find that can do both tasks well. iRobot Combo J7+ comes with all the features and smarts of its j7 counterpart, including LiDAR map and self-emptying. It also comes with additional features for mopping and vacuuming.
The new acoustic sensors help the j7+ recognize floor types, so it can decide between mopping and vacuuming during the first time it passes through an area. This information is also utilized to help prioritize cleaning rooms with carpets and rugs versus those with hard flooring.
Like most robotic vacuums, the j7+ is quiet when running and it's even less noisy when it's mopping. The maximum reading on our decibel meter was 64db, which is comparable to the sound of normal office chatter.
It's easy to set the schedule to clean and alter the way that the j7+ operates when its dust container is full. The j7+ can be controlled by voice assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant and others. The app allows you to create and view maps in your home.
In our tests, the j7+ was a solid performer on both hard and carpeted flooring, removing the majority of the dirt we threw at it. It isn't able to deal with pet hair, large pieces of debris and sand. But it can clean them with a little more effort. It also has good navigation abilities and a pair of cliff sensors to stop it from falling down a flight of stairs or getting stuck on furniture legs.
We did discover a few minor niggles with the j7+. These include that it can get caught on rugs and cords and that it doesn't always switch off its mopping when it's done vacuuming. This is a great model that ticks all the boxes.
The j7+ from iRobot also has one of the best self-emptying systems we've seen. It dumps its 14oz/0.4-liter dust canister into the base station, and it automatically emptys for you. This reduces the amount of trash you must get rid of. You'll only need to change the dust disposal bag at the dock every 60 days, based on the frequency you use the j7+.
