What Are The 4 Oldest Minecraft Servers That Are Still Running?
Minecraft has been around for a considerable time and its popularity is growing. However, since its official release on November 18 in 2011, many servers have been added, removed, and forgotten. In the last 12 years, Minecraft has had four servers. Some were full of chaos and drama while others were a calm refuge for friends.

The Novylen Minecraft Server located in Canada has the official title of oldest Minecraft Server ever built, on April 9th the year 2010, four months prior to the previous owner, MinecraftOnline. However, if you read before you'll see that MinecraftOnline was released on the same day that multiplayer was launched, so how was Novylen established earlier than this?
While the server was introduced the day after Minecraft Multiplayer's release the map was built far earlier, as rbos, the owner, initially played the map on his singleplayer world way back in the Minecraft InfDev period (specifically InfDev 20100413), 4 months before the release of Minecraft Multiplayer. To add to this, the server has never ever been reset, which means the player could have hopped on over 10 years ago, built something, and then left forever and their creation as the only evidence of their existence. Novylen is also less well-known than 2b2t, which means that it hasn't suffered the same fate of numerous hacks, flimsy exploits and griefs. This is why some of the first creations of 2010 still being visible even today!

Nerd.nu was established for the first time on June 10, 2009, only three days after Minecraft's unofficial Multiplayer release Version 0.0.16a. It was so early in Minecraft that survival mode was not a feature in the game at the time. As you can see in the image above, a variety of creations from different eras of Minecraft were built on Nerd.nu. The server has seen numerous game modes added over time however, the most popular and oldest is the 'Creative' type which means that players don't have a healthbar, are able to fly, and build whatever they like with their imagination.
Although the server was created in the early stages there are those who believe that MinecraftOnline is a lot older than it was. This is because the map has been reset many times over the years, which means it's not the same as it was 20 years ago. The Creative game mode created by Nerd.nu is currently in its 36th revision. It was reset 35 times before.

MinecraftOnline was first launched on August 4th, 2010 and has enjoyed the status of being the oldest server in Minecraft's history, because it was launched within an hour of Notch releasing the survival multiplayer mode. Since then, and with astonishment, the server has stayed in operation and hasn't been reset one time. But why doesn't it look like the conglomerate of cobblestone that 2b2t is?
It's amazing that the server has had staff since its inception. MinecraftOnline also has rules that players must adhere to unlike 2b2t. However this doesn't mean every player must adhere to the rules. In the 12 years of MinecraftOnline's existence, more than 43,000 users were banned. It's not only that. The world's size (remember that it has never been reset) has grown to 26GB, just one world.

2b2t is one of the most well-known Minecraft servers. 2b2t was founded in December of 2010. It is known as an "anarchy server". This means that there are thousands of players using hacker-friendly client software and the server is not friendly. This creates the server's distinctive, beat-up appearance. What the server is probably most famous for though, is it's map, which, since it's creation, has never once been reset. This means that numerous players have come and gone over the decades, leaving their footprints on the server for ever.
2b2t had a steady stream of players in its early days. Over the years, it fluctuated between 10-80. The change came in June of 2016, however, when the well-known YouTuber TheCampingRusher uploaded his first video. The server has been utilized by a variety of other YouTubers, making 2b2t a highly popular website. In 2022, the server has more than 1000 users at peak times and it doesn't look like this number will diminish any time soon.
In conclusion, along with these servers, a lot of other servers also date back to the year 2011. Servers have not all been around for this long.
