What Are Extra Curricular Activities?
EdMap
Extra curriculars are anything you do outside of academics. These can include sports, music, community service activities, jobs/internships, clubs, and more. Extra curriculars help colleges get to know you as a person: what do you care about? How committed are you? These are the major that you can list as your extracurricular activities
Activities in school
These activities take place in school and are mostly related to clubs. For example, Writing and distributing a school newspaper or blog, student council and student parliament, being a member of a sports club and participating in various types of sports, organizing theater programs, participating in robotics and science and technology clubs, and generally being a member and participating in any clubs in the school are considered as extracurricular activities.
Community activities
These activities exist in social life and can be best written as extracurricular activities more than any other activities, as colleges want to see students' commitment to a cause and it is a great opportunity to show your good character. If you put volunteer work on your application, make sure it's something you've been involved in for at least a few months.
For example, teaching children outside of school hours, serving at the elderly help center and other such activities. Many students think that certification is mandatory when they think about extra curriculars. But it is wrong. Colleges don't spend hundreds of thousands of students flipping certificates to find out what you spend your time doing outside of class. Therefore, we would like to remind you not to be limited by saying that you do not have a certificate to describe your activities.
Part Time jobs / Internships
These activities mainly take place after school hours, which is a great opportunity for admission officers to see all students' extracurricular activities.
Note, if you do end up having a lot of extracurriculars, you could put it in the additional information session or an essay if it means a lot to you. Just don't repeat the information anywhere, unless it is a big part of your experience (then its okay to elaborate since that shows what is meaningful to you).
