The Space Exploration & Research Agency (SERA) is the space agency built for YOU. We’re here to launch the next generation into space.

In 2022, Victor Hespanha was selected from the SERA community to fly aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard, becoming the first Latin American civilian astronaut. Now it’s YOUR turn. SERA is launching an even more ambitious mission: a dedicated human spaceflight program with six seats reserved on an upcoming New Shepard flight.

* Dedicated seats announced so far: Brazil, India, Nigeria, Thailand. The final nation/region is yet to be announced.

** Excluding US-sanctioned nations/regions: Crimea, Donetsk People’s Republic, Luhansk People’s Republic, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria

🌍 How It Works

The astronaut program happens inside the SERA Mission Control app (in Telegram). It is divided into phases, each with unique goals, mechanics, and rewards.

SpaceDust is the in-app currency. It fuels leaderboards, rewards, and future opportunities across SERA.

Badges are achievements unlocked by completing challenges in the app. The more you unlock, the more voting power you accrue in later phases to select astronauts and the experiments they perform in space.

Phase 0: Pioneer Campaign

For early adopters and pre-registered members. Build your campaign by:

  • Creating your profile + SERA ID
  • Inviting friends with your referral link
  • Sharing posts with #SERASpace on connected social media accounts

Earn SpaceDust from content views and from your crew’s activity on social media. Unlock badges and climb the leaderboard for visibility.

Everyone joining unlocks the Pioneer Badge, which significantly boosts your campaign in Phase 1 with a SpaceDust bonus.

⚠️ Important: Leaderboard position in Phase 0 does not necessarily mean you’re closer to a rocket seat. It increases your visibility and potential support later.

Phase 1: Astronaut Candidacy

The official start of the astronaut campaign.

  • Goal: collect enough SpaceDust to acquire the Astronaut Candidate Badge (available from mid-Phase 1, value defined at that point as a function of community size and activity).
  • Collecting extra SpaceDust strengthens your position for Phase 2.
  • New ways to earn SpaceDust inside the app will balance opportunities for everyone (not just content engagement).

⚠️ Important: As in Phase 0, the Leaderboard in Phase 1 does not select astronauts. It increases your visibility and potential support later.

Phase 2: Collective Action

  • Candidates with the Astronaut Badge complete KYC to confirm nationality.
  • Candidates are placed on 5 national/regional leaderboards (one per seat).
  • Users are able to pledge SpaceDust to candidates they wish to support
  • Leaderboard rankings depend on both the Spacedust you have collected and the SpaceDust others have pledged to your campaign.

End of Phase 2:

  • Top 10 in the regional leaderboards enter a national/regional vote.
  • All SERA members vote for national/regional candidates.
  • Voting power is increased the more badges you have.
  • Top 3 voted astronaut candidates per national/regional leaderboard advance to the Finals.
  • All pledged SpaceDust is returned after this phase, as you can still use it in the app to unlock rewards.

Phase 3: Crew Selection

  • Finalists are grouped into crews of Astronaut Candidates (one from each nation/region per crew).
  • Crews participate in astronaut training experiences and challenges, which are broadcast on YouTube.
  • The Collective votes not for individuals, but for the best crew.
  • The winning crew = SERA’s next class of astronauts, flying on New Shepard and conducting meaningful scientific experiments in microgravity.

The Thai Astronaut Selection process

SERA has partnered with TrueVisions NOW through our existing collaboration with CreAsia Studio to produce a Reality TV Show - 'Race To Space: Thailand' to find the first Thai Astronaut. The timing, sequence, and logic of the selection process will be different from the other five seats, as it will be run in collaboration with True Visions. If you're not from Thailand, this does not directly affect you. The partnership is a huge step forward for SERA as a whole, laying the foundation for future flights in more Nations and helping us to successfully execute the current Mission.
