Wedding Vows

In a world where wedding vows have become so political correct, it may as well say 'I agree to stick with you until you annoy me.' Perhaps we should bring 'love, honor and obey' back, as well as 'to death do us part.'

I know that when my grandparents got married, they made a lifetime commitment to each other. They didn't enter into the marriage expecting to get divorced. They truly believed that they would be together until death parted them.

And you know what? They stuck it out. They had their ups and downs, but they worked through them. They were committed to each other and to their marriage.

Nowadays, it seems like people are far too quick to throw in the towel. We live in a society where divorce is more common than ever. And I think a lot of it has to do with the way we view marriage.

We no longer see marriage as a lifetime commitment. Instead, we see it as a temporary arrangement that we can get out of if things don't work out.

But what if we started to view marriage as a lifetime commitment again? What if we made vows to each other that were more than just 'I agree to stick with you until you annoy me?'

Perhaps it's time to bring back the vows of 'love, honor and obey.' Perhaps it's time to pledge 'to death do us part.'

Making such vows would force us to really think about whether or not we're truly ready for marriage. It would make us consider whether or not we're willing to make a lifetime commitment to our partner.

And maybe, just maybe, it would help to reduce the number of divorces. After all, if more couples were truly committed to each other, maybe fewer of them would end up getting divorced.

When two hearts become one, there are certain promises that are made. These promises are not just between the two individuals, but also with God. With these vows, the couple is setting themselves up for a lifetime of happiness, love, and companionship.

The traditional wedding vows are as follows:

'I, (name), take you, (name), to be my (wife/husband), to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part. I promise to love and cherish you, and to honor and obey you, all the days of our lives.'

By making these traditional wedding vows, the couple is promising each other a lifetime of love, respect, and companionship. They are also vowing to God to be faithful to each other and to His will. These vows are not to be taken lightly, but are to be cherished and honored for a lifetime.
