Donald Trump said he would not allow the opening of a new bridge between Ontario and Michigan, currently under construction by Canada, until Ottawa treats the United States "with the respect we deserve."
“As everyone knows, Canada has treated the United States deeply unfairly for decades. Now the situation is changing — and fast!However, look: Canada is building a giant bridge between Ontario and Michigan. They own both the Canadian and American parts, and obviously did it with little or no U.S. input.
Former President Barack Hussein Obama irresponsibly granted them an exception, allowing them to circumvent the "Buy American" law by excluding the use of American products, including our steel.
Now the Canadian government expects me, as president of the United States, to simply allow them to "take advantage of America." And what will the United States get in return? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!
Ontario, moreover, does not even allow the sale of American alcohol in its stores — this is prohibited by law.
And now, as if that's not enough, Prime Minister Carney wants to make a deal with China that will destroy Canada. We'll only have crumbs left! I don't think so.
I will not allow this bridge to be opened until the United States receives full compensation for everything we have given them, and, last but not least, until Canada begins to treat the United States with the justice and respect we deserve.
We will begin negotiations IMMEDIATELY. After all that we have provided, perhaps we should own at least half of this infrastructure. The revenues generated by the American market will be "astronomical."
