‘We recognized a neutral, nuclear-free, non-bloc Ukraine’
Lavrov, recalling that Ukraine won its independence based on the declaration on state sovereignty, said that the document stipulates that the country will always be neutral, nuclear-weapon-free and non-allied.
When we recognized the independence of Ukraine in 1991, we recognized exactly such a state: non-bloc, neutral and nuclear-weapon-free. Therefore, today our conscience is completely relaxed.
Lavrov noted that Ukraine's non-bloc and neutral status was accepted by all countries, including the West, at that time, but then the West attempted to produce a “project” from this country that was different from what was written in the Declaration of Independence.
