Not sure why I ended up watching this movie but it was a surprisingly good and at times sweet romantic comedy…if you can get past the fact that the female lead is a high-end prostitute and the male lead is sex addicted and uses a smart phone app to have sex with random women at the drop of a hat. The main male lead, Mitch (played by Michael Doneger) is very early on in the film fired from his job and, among other things owing rent to his landlord and to be able to continue to buy high-priced foods like coconut water, has to find a new gig. His profession, print journalism, has a tight market and he does find a magazine that will give him a chance if he wows them with a new story but otherwise has no real prospects. Mitch knows of a story idea, one that he came across meeting a woman thanks to the sex app, a story on a prostitute he meets at a hotel bar by the name of Natalie (played by Lyndsy Fonseca). They have that instant hate-each-other-but-secretly-like-each other vibe I have seen in other romantic comedies but I liked here. Learning in their brief conversation she is Stanford-educated, he tries to talk her into letting him doing a story on him. Natalie at first doesn’t like the idea at all, but soon comes around when she realizes she doesn’t want to work for anyone (and lose a hefty portion of her income) but also doesn’t like not having protection when she is on her “dates,” so decides to let Mitch follow he around, not telling him he is protection (though he soon figures this out). Lots of good elements that make the movie work, from the fact that both the main characters are more or less equal in terms of not being “normal” in terms of sexually related areas of endeavor (Mitch’s friends and family for instance want him to get a handle on his sex addiction, Natalie hides her job from her family, and both bond over which clinics they regularly go to be tested). I liked that there was parity there, not a Pretty Woman situation (the movie was referenced and I liked that). When the story expands to include Mitch’s family, including his rather amusing foul-mouthed younger daughter who is on the high school football team (Emily, played by Rachel Resheff) and his dad played by Bruce Campbell (always a delight to see), I liked the movie even more. I liked Mitch’s friend JP (played by Tommy Dewey) and Mitch and JP had some genuinely funny interactions that advanced the storyline as well. I liked the chemistry between Natalie and Mitch and it was often quite witty. Mitch could have been a very, very creepy character if he was cast in a certain way but came off as pretty normal and likable, a bit sarcastic and self-deprecating, but kind and not arrogant. Natalie was well cast as well, the actress witty, undeniably pretty, and giving off a wonderful Amanda Peet vibe (especially how she was in _The Whole Nine Yards_). Downsides, the idea that Mitch can have a successful life in Los Angeles without having a car, one scene where Natalie successfully follows Mitch without being seen (really stretched credulity), and thought I liked Bruce Campbell and he was in several scenes wasn’t written in such a way to fully utilize his groovy potential. While JP was story wise a useful friend to Mitch, Natalie didn’t have a comparably useful friend. One scene where we meet Natalie’s roommates weird, spaced-out boyfriend…wasn’t sure what that scene was supposed to do. Except for Mitch looking at video in a men’s room, there is no nudity in the movie. There is a good bit of implied sex in the film, either with Natalie and her clients or Mitch and his hookups, but nothing especially graphic. Definitely not a Christian film but it wasn’t ugly or awful or anything like that. I generally liked the ending, I thought maybe it got a bit too romantic and hadn’t quite earned that ending, but it fit as it dovetailed with other things in the film.

Lindsay Fonseca spanks a guy in a diaper and then the theme song is a sweet, sweet 60s Soul tune. I was hooked. The story is a romantic comedy about Michael Doneger trying to write a story about Fonseca who is a prostitute. They’re very funny together with Fonseca constantly making fun of him. As the story progresses the two open up about each other and it just blooms from there. Each one is very smart and witty. Bruce Campbell plays the dad and I appreciate every time he’s on screen.

If you're looking for something kinda chill to have on in the background, this will work. If you're looking for a lukewarm sack of every worn out trope and cliche stereotype ever invented, you found it. The best thing I can say about this movie is that someone made money with it. I guess. It seems it's main purpose is simply to be another brick in the wall of options presented to you by Prime. **Mild Spoilers ahead** The worst thing about it is the employment of an outdated "male savior rescues her with his love" rhetoric for the eight hundred millionth time. Spare me. The writers aptly touch on the trope's origin, pretty woman, then go ahead and copy it anyway, only this time, with all the care and consideration of a bunch of greedy schmucks who couldn't care less about quality. At one point the main character says "you didn't need protection, you were just lonely." It's so grossly contradictory to the only aspect of this story that came anywhere near reality: a portrayal of the very real dangers of prostitution. In the film, she LITERALLY NEEDED PROTECTION. Not a patriarchal "love savior" attitude, but actual bodily protection. For a person living with the reality that the world is dangerous for many because men are told that women need romantic love rather than respect for our decisions, and to not be harmed, it hits a nerve. Movies like this amplify the false narrative with plot devices such as encouraging the "hero" to go "fix" the relationship after his love object rejected him. I'd rather see the characters heroically giving the rejector space and moving on with their lives. Lastly, I'll end my rant with a touch on the puritanical attitudes toward prostitution, which I honestly can't believe are still circulating through our entertainment media. At one point, the main character caustically accuses her "you like this job...you're comfortable in it because you're in control, you dictate the terms." Excuse me is that supposed to be a bad thing?? In what world is a woman supposed to feel guilty for choosing an option where this is the case? The writers at one point specifically addressed the fiscal practicality of prostitution as a career, and then proceed to dump shame on the vocation as a whole. Rather than give prostitutes the respect they deserve by depicting them as humans making their own decisions, they portray them as sad women who feel trapped and just need a man to love them enough to save them. This rhetoric stems from a culture of patriarchy and sexual repression, and it needs to die.

Prime has sensor's so I want my review to post.. This movie is really good. Though it was filmed on location in DTLA .. the vice squad are laughing their bums offs. First of I have never heard of these two actors before ..the story was good and the cast seemed to click. Honestly hanging out in "high-end" hotels will get you pinched.. Maybe it was cool in the 1970's-1990's at their bars ? Most of the ladies in that high -end sector may sometimes be grad students and while it seems like 1k is cool funds. ? There is always a "risk" in that profession ...check out "Street Walkin" with Melissa Leo and Dale M. ..hustling for a living ain't a "lifestyle" that many want to brag or boast about. P.Escobar or Heidi Fleiss ....all went to jail at one time or another.. Movies about "vice" send a message about cash and flashy lifestyle..but in the end.. You will pay a price...and I recommend an education over going down this path..

The basic story is predictable, but the actual story has a few twists here and there. Even so it did feel somewhat vanilla flavored, and there really weren't any surprises. What I was expecting (other than perhaps a bit more sex) was a real story about a journalist being tempted by his subject. But it isn't. We don't see the main character write a single thing until the end. And even then we just see the magazine supposedly with hit article in it. We don't get his commentary, we don't get his insights, we don't get any emotional impact other than him losing his cool a few times. It's not a thorough movie. I mean why on Earth would you be attracted to a woman who charges men money for sex? Oh sure, as guys we understand the physical aspect, but this guy falls in love with a woman who really doesn't care much for love. It's like she falls for him for the sake of the movie, and nothing more. In this way this film felt very mechanical, and it really wasn't all that well shot in the first place. No insights from the characters of why they do what they do, a rather bland shooting style, some predictable plot points or points that have no bearing or evidence to be present in the first place (note that sex-intervention scene), and what you have left is a kind of Pretty Woman knockoff minus the budget that went into Pretty Woman. Like I said about another film, this film needed more sex and story, and by story I mean some real thoughts expressed by the male lead. Why have no idea why he's falling for this hooker other than she's personable. The guy's not that bad looking, so perhaps it's a case of being miscast (as well as poorly written and shot). If you're going to make a film about sexual discovery, then make that film. This film is like a freshman writer's sexual fantasy come true, but without the sex. Make of that what you will. Otherwise I say avoid this thing.

I've seen a few people comparing this movie to Pretty Woman, and I can't seem to figure out how far someone has to have their heads up their butts to make that comparison. Pretty Woman was an OK movie for its time, but The Escort will likely have way more longevity... Pretty Woman isn't half the movie this is. The Escort is funny, thought provoking, and has way more to say than a lot of the formulaic story telling typical of rom-coms like Pretty Woman. The only thing Pretty Woman has in common with The Escort is the theme of prostitution. Anyone making that comparison likely has a very narrow spectrum on life, and probably hired a striper for their bachelor party to jump out of a cake while they laughed at the perceived 'animal' they hired to preform tricks. Good movie, 5 stars, you should watch it

I really liked this movie, some don’t, reminded me of movie “Pretty Woman” but this one had its own story line, funny, attractive women, funny one liners, girl playing the escort is hot and hilarious, Mitch, guy chasing her is perfect for his part, movie cheers me up to watch

Didn't think this movie was nearly as bad as the negative reviews would have you believe. The main characters were attractive and their acting well above average. The movie is just 87 minutes. I think they could have used another 20 minutes to tell the story and/or cut out the scenes with Rumer Willis. The directing is pretty bad and the writing is worse, but we have all been through weaker films than this one. Give it 20 minutes. You will have a pretty good idea by then.
