It's no wonder this film became a hit. You look at Julia Roberts and it's hard not to like her. You look at her (especially for me, when she's with Richard Gere and she's playing with him about rescuing her if she fell off the balcony of his penthouse apartment) and think, "This girl is going to save this man! This is the girl for him!" I thought that way about Laura San Giacomo (she played Kit De Luca, Julia's hooker friend) as well. I looked at her youth and her beauty and saw no "trash" in her. Sometimes, I thought she should've won the role instead of Julia. No offense, Ms. Roberts. I'll say one thing about Richard Gere's character: He's not only likable, but he's strong. He's strong enough to resist temptation. I wish I were more like him.

This is my moms all-time favorite movie! She watches it every single night, ever since I was a little kid. Sadly, my mom's house was robbed last year, and they stole all of her movies including this one. I bought it brand new for her for her birthday, she was so happy she jumped for joy :) It came on time and all wrapped up, brand new.

I owned Pretty Woman on vhs. I've played it often enough to the point to where it started to degrade. I realized I needed to upgrade to a dvd or blu-ray disc. I love how it is the exact same as my vhs and was satisfied that it was. Though, the only downside to the blu-ray disc is that it doesn't have the deleted scenes that my vhs had at the end of it. The menu is gorgeous to look at. Spoilers may be after this point. Pretty Woman is about a prostitute who meets a rich man and they fall in love. Edward is lost driving and he stops in a sketchy place. Vivian works her thing, but Edward only just needed directions to his hotel. Vivian guides the way (the human gps). Edward needed a date and propositions Vivian to be with her six or seven days. During the week, their feelings grow. Yet, there were some stumbling blocks for Vivian to fit into the rich lifestyle. She needed an outfit and shopkeepers didn't want to have anything to do with her. A kind hotel manager, Barney, aids in her plight (the fairy godmother or should I say godfather of the movie). Philip is a piece of work and could be seen as the villain of the movie. At the end as most fairy tales go, they live happily ever after or at least we hope they do. If you have never seen Pretty Woman you should.

If I could give no stars, I would. The first DVD stopped working with about 30 min left in the movie and now the SECOND one has also stopped working but with about 45 min left. Very disappointed.

I wanted the original version without any cut scenes added back in. They were cut for a good reason. I looked and looked and began to think it would not be possible to find it but I found it on here and purchased it right away. I love this movie and have since it came out.

Just like A Few Good Men, this would be a perfect template for films written by AI. In this case we have the contrast between super-luxurious living and extreme downscale living. Two individuals whose (very different ) lifestyles each seem to preclude romance, find it with each other. Progress and reversals happen at exactly the right time. I revisited this because of of the business parallels I had noticed when watching Cash McCall recently. Edward Lewis and Cash McCall each start out as ruthless asset-strippers, but each undergo Damascene conversions so that their planned asset-stripping morphs into more benevolent capitalism by the end. Nothing too profound, but a decent feelgood film.

Just so you are forewarned there doesn't appear to be an option on this DVD to watch the film as it originally appeared. This version includes previously deleted scenes. While it is interesting to see deleted scenes in context and marvel at which parts they cut I feel like some of the extra scenes did detract from the story line and still prefer the original version. The visual clarity for an older film was very good, they did a good job adapting an old film for modern television screens.

The film "pretty woman" is a modern classic. It became a huge box office hit in the early 90s and made a superstar out of Julia Roberts. The film's release on DVD has been a muddled affair as a special edition version of the film that added all sorts of deleted scenes was the only version available. These scenes in my opinion took away from the original film which was perfect in it's original form. Sadly, the original theatrical version had been unavailable unless you owned a VHS copy. The Blu-Ray version here thankfully IS THE ORIGINAL THEATRICAL VERSION. The picture quality is clear and you can enjoy Pretty Woman without having to suffer through those awful scenes that the director frankly didn't feel worked either. The blu ray menu is gorgeous with a multipanel layout showing Vivienne's scene from the movie and the corresponding preliminary costume design artwork in another panel. James Newton Howard's amazing (and sadly still unreleased) orchestral scores plays in the background. There are loads of extras that have been offered on previous edition. On this version the main draw is the original film. I'm very happy to have this version back in my collection.

Who doesn't love a prostitute

This film combined my too favourite things, a prostitute and a love story. I'm joking of course. I'm not a fan of love stories Everyone has seen this film I am sure. So it comes down to the question around the transfer. Adequate is what I would call it It's better than dvd but it's not great. You really do lack a lot of detail modern films have. This is an 11 year old transfer which to me resembles something of the early HD DVD transfers. Better than dvd but nothing special. Think 1080i not 1080p It's Β£5.98 so well worth the extra cost to buy but don't expect to be amazed by it on your TV!

Great classical love story for 20th century

There is nothing to add to this movie. However, this version is better than the version released worldwide, as this anniversary version contains the deleted scenes which never should have been deleted in the beginning. The chemistry between main protagonists, Richard and Julia are wonderful. Well written script, crispy conversation, and great supporting actors and excellent music, this movie was destined to become super hit classics. Of course, in real world, this type of love never happens, Thus, humanity always yearn what they cannot attain. Great love story, totally different than AN OFFICER AND GENTLEMAN, but the essential theme is same, the purity of the women catches the hearts of men. All Glory to women all over the world.

Welcome to Hollywood! What's your dream?

(THE FILM) Academy Award-nominee Julia Roberts and charismatic leading man Richard Gere light up the screen in one of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters. Roberts stars a street-wise, down-on-her-luck working girl, whose chance encounter with a handsome corporate mogul leads to an improbable love affair... and a modern-day Cinderella fantasy that has captured the hearts of move-goers all over the world. Featuring a chart-topping soundtrack, this is an irresistible and timeless romantic comedy. WHAT CAN I SAY? The film continues to develop as the story progresses, showing the difference between two different levels of class (upper and lower). The characters chosen for this film are perfect, as they act with such passion, dedication and commitment it captivates the meaning of two people, from two completely different social backgrounds Julia Roberts acting is faultless, and she and Richard Gere have an excellent chemistry as the loved up pair.- they were made for these roles. This film shows that all types of women have dreams of a fairytale, and even though it doesn't always come true in real life, watching this film just gives you that uplifting feeling that someday it might.Pretty Woman is one of those films that stand the test of time with a lot of chemistry mixed with a touch of class. -------------------------------------------------- HER ARE SOME Memorable Quotes For ((Pretty Woman)) Vivian: So, what's your name? And I would- I would pretend I was a princess... trapped in a tower by a wicked queen. And then suddenly this knight... on a white horse with these colors flying would come charging up and draw his sword. And I would wave. And he would climb up the tower and rescue me. But never in all the time... that I had this dream did the knight say to me, "Come on, baby, I'll put you up in a great condo." ---------------------------------- THE LAST LINE IN THE FILM SAY IT ALL Welcome to Hollywood! Pretty Woman (15th Anniversary Special Edition) (DVD)

Roy Orbison's song Pretty Woman is inseparable from this film, and summarises it exactly, but one has to wait until half way through the film, for the complete version, as the streetwise girl is transformed into an elegant lady. Julia Roberts has the beauty and talent to make her character Vivian Ward very real; and Richard Gere gives a convincing performance of the money obsessed billionaire Edward Lewis, who is humanised again through his efforts to turn a hooker into a lady, treating his partner and lawyer Philip Stuckey (Ralph Bellamy) very badly because he can not keep pace with his change of heart. The Film shows intentionally the hipocracy and also the desirability of protocol. The same woman is looked upon with distaste in expensive hotels and stores in streetwise clothes, but ogled and treated like an object of desire and with respect, when wearing high fashion. (It is not the goods, but how you wrap them which makes the difference, in this case wardrobe by Cerruti of Paris ) It would be an outrage of respectability for her to stay in a millionaire's suite as a paid escort, but acceptable as a 'relative' in this case as his niece. There is compassion beneath the stern exterior of propriety and efficiency, and the hotel manager played by Hector Elizondo, instructs and helps the girl with etiquette and dress sense. There is an undercurrent of humour also, such as when Vivian squeezes her snail tongues too hard at a dinner, and propells the creature across the room to be caught expertly by a waiter. Laura Giacomo provides some sad humour as the drug addicted friend of Vivian, Kit De Luca, still in the clutches of a pimp and his organisation. After misunderstandings Edward encouraged by the hotel manager, travells standing through the sun roof of the limo to Vivian's appartment, and overcomes his fear of heights by climbing the fire escape to propose. Another high flying feature of the production is the Orchestra conducted by Jazz orientated Marty Paich, who worked with such artists as Mel Torme and Peggy Lee. There is no 15th Anniversary booklet, and it is only a one disc set, but there is a new audio commentary by Director Gary Marshall, and a track 'Wild Woman Do' by Natalie Cole, plus Featurettes, in the Special Features. The Dolby 5.1 sound is good, and the picture quality beautiful. The language options are English and French, with subtitle options in English and Dutch.

One of my old time favourite films.

I love this movie, I bought this on VHS tape, when it first came out in 1990. The picture quality no longer shows well, so I now bought it on dvd, I'm really glad I bought this as it includes extras, never seen before part of this movie. Its really great.
