I really liked this movie - House. Based on the same titled book by co-collaborating bestselling Christian authors Frank Peretti' and Ted Dekker. If you like Stephen King and Dean Koontz for contemporary mainstream horror genre than you will like Frank Peretti' and Ted Dekker for Christian horror genre since they are reminiscent of each other. Although, it is strictly speaking Christian horror genre it is not bible thumping, self righteous but instead though provoking and life 're-affirming. "House" arch of the story is that a married couple are on a road trip to save there marriage after the tragic death of there daughter. They take a unscheduled detour and there car breaks down on a deserted highway, in the rain, dark, dank, secluded countryside - the only light in the dark is a dilapidated bed and breakfast inn that has seen better days. With no other recourse, our couple checks in for the night...but will they survive the night to check out again. The "House" becomes a living breathing, entity it would almost seem with the way the "House" inanimate objects come to life (not in a Beauty and the Beast benevolent way, but in a malevolent way) , the architecture, and even the very rooms subsequently move or change order. There are secondary characters too trying to survive the night at the "House" despite being pitted against remaining guest for their very survival in a game of life and death with the "House" as the puppeteer and referee it seems. The caregivers of the "House" are just as culpable in the horrific mayhem that ensues. The ray of shining light in the otherwise darkness is a seemingly angelic child always there to lead the good in the righteousness path...towards redemption, eternal life, perhaps. The "House" is a complex, multifaceted movie with unexpected depths, complex intricate interwoven plots, and the ultimate power to be found in forgiveness and redemption. I really enjoyed this movie but do not recommend for the faint of heart or squeamish because although it is Christian fiction to clarify it is horror-Christian fiction. I liked it and purchased it in all three formats - DVD, digital instant video, and kindle ebook. SIDENOTE: I really like this hereto untapped genre - Christian horror. Other good movies from this genre include but not limited to the following, "House" "The Remaining" "Vanished - Left Behind Next Generation"

I wasn't sure about this at first, I thought it might be a remake of the 1985 film House, and then when it got started I also wasn't sure I wanted to keep watching some petty, self-centered middle class couple argue. However, the house itself is an intriguing character and overall I think this was an excellent idea that could have been executed in a better way. If you meet this film halfway it actually has a lot to offer, it has elements that reminded me of the original Nightmare on Elm Street and the People Under the Stairs among others. The flaws are mostly in the beginning of the film which is too bad because it gets a lot better.

I randomly discovered the book that this movie was based on while browsing in a library. I ripped through the pages thinking that someone should make it into a movie. I was happily surprised to learn that someone did! While this is a low-budget movie that doesn't entirely do justice to the book, it does maintain the main storyline and themes of the book (and in fact adds a twist at the end that is an improvement from the book). "House" is different from many horror flicks in that it is not gory; there is violence (and people do die), but the terror in this film lies more on a psychological level. It is also different from other horror movies in that the characters seem "real" and believable (although I may feel this way because I read the book first and felt that I already "knew" the characters--if you haven't read the book, you may feel differently). I felt for the characters and for what was happening to them (and for what had happened to them in their pasts--one of the characters was haunted by memories of being raped by her uncle when she was a child). Even if you are not interested in the deeper aspects of character development, you should still enjoy the ride that "House" takes you on. Once the terror begins, it is relentless. It grabs you by the hair, drags your across the floor, and refuses to let go. This is a great movie to watch late at night with all the lights turned off.

I read House about a year ago and liked it. It wasn't as great as other similar books by Ted Dekker or Frank Peretti, but it was still pretty good. So when I saw that they came out with a movie based on the book, I was pretty stoked. After watching the movie, here are my thoughts. I was first struck by how nice the movie looked and how good the cinematography was, considering it didn't have a huge budget. And sadly, the next thing I was struck by was the weak acting. The couple in the car at the beginning just seemed to me to be quoting lines. It didn't feel like they believed what they were saying. For me, that problem permeated throughout the rest of the movie; I just didn't believe them. The rest of the actors and actresses were pretty good, and the creepy house-dwellers were appropriately creepy. I also loved the special effects! A lot of times, the special effects are an afterthought in a low budget film, but they paid a lot of attention to detail, and it paid off. Except for the scene where the camera peered through a window to the girl in the snow outside; it looked terribly cheap. And lastly, the story just wasn't built up enough and didn't seem very interesting to me, even after having read the book. I wasn't really on edge at all through the movie but was just sort of dragged along through the plot. But overall, I'm still glad I watched it and would recommend it to others who enjoy suspense flicks. Ted Dekker books are way better than these movies, so make sure to read them!

I saw this movie advertised for $30.00. At other vendor locations, the prices were breath taking. I had been wanting to buy this movie for months, but thought the price was ridiculous. I found this movie on Amazon for $25.00 less than the above $30.00 price. The DVD case had no wear or tear. The DVD itself was perfect; no skipping, pausing, etc.... The movie itself is sold in Christian stores (@$30.00). Looking at the front and back covers of the movie, one may say "How is this Christian related (as I did)?" Once you have watched the movie then it will make more sense- Guilty and non-guilty, Sin, God, and Satan are all combined to make this movie Christian based (in a unique way). I would not say this movie is not scary, but opens your eyes to examine yourself to see what actor's role your life follows and the consequence of such. I would not recommend this movie to children under the age of 15 due to the violence and paranormal activity. I love this movie due to it's message. I would recommend this movie to a friend, but they should buy the movie from Amazon due to the amazing price and delivery time!!

I must say that I have viewed my share of horror movies in almost every aspect of what some may or may not call horror. This movie wasn't too bad, I liked it, it was different from what I have viewed in the past. You can say I collect movies of many sorts. But I found this one to have a good message to it and it displayed it in a different matter. Although I feel like that Michael Madsen take on any parts offered to him, he manages to deliver his part with a descent delivery. The House was dark and you can feel that something was evil about it, but that something good came of it in the end. Not Too Bad!

Enjoyed it with my husband and kids age 13 & 15. We all thought it was a little scary but not too bad. It was not blatantly Christian. After the movie was over, my 15 year old told us what he saw as the spiritual analogies in the film. Shared the movie with my parents and they thought it was very scary. Might have to look hard for the spiritual symbolisms. I do plan to show this to our youth group since they love scary films. If you are looking for a scary Christian film that is not pathetic, I would recommend this one.
