San Francisco is at your mercy as you hack every electronic object you come across in Watch Dogs 2 ( full review on GameSkinny ). While there are loads of great updates and formula changes in this sequel, one addition in particular has got eyebrows raising.
From full frontal nudity of clothing-optional hula hoopers to surprise genital shots of dead civilians, it turns out there's quite a bit of nudity in this game , which is now putting players at odds with their console manufacturers.
You know those EULAs you skip whenever you setup a new PS4 or Xbox One? They include clauses about not sharing sexually explicit material through your account.
That's particularly relevant in this situation, as it means if you take a screenshot on your console and share it (as Sony and Microsoft want you to do), you can get your account banned from online activity .
This exact scenario happened with one Watch Dogs 2 player at the game's launch, with it being widely reported a player had all PSN online activity suspended for sharing the image below (you can see the non-censored version here ).
After the situation came to light, Ubisoft vowed to remove that particular texture in an upcoming patch, presumably to prevent more players from being banned over sharing screenshots. Semi-serious question: considering this is Ubisoft, shouldn't the exposed genitalia have been a paid DLC pack ?
All jokes aside, the vagina shot in particular is sort of odd, especially considering you'd typically only see it if someone had been blown up or violently knocked over.
Other than female genitals, there's plenty bare chests to be found if you wander the city enough. There's another interesting angle to this whole debacle: you can see fully exposed male genitalia in other areas of the game as men walk around naked, and those textures are apparently NOT being patched out.
This appears to be another casualty in the ongoing war between the freedom of PC and restrictions of console, where for instance Skyrim's mod community is basically built on nude textures, while none of that is allowed with Xbox One mods.
The situation brings up a whole host of questions of why nudity is singled out so frequently as an offensive (and bannable) offense on consoles. After all, the game is M-rated , so why should a developer have to remove nudity when, for instance, film directors aren't required to remove frontal shots of genitals from raunchy R-rated comedies?

After quite the interesting reveal of fully-rendered genitalia being present in Watch Dogs 2, Ubisoft have released a statement apologizing for the inclusion of visible genitals and have announced that they will be removed in time for the PC release.

Watch Dogs 2 has experienced quite the interesting launch, but perhaps not for the reasons Ubisoft wanted.
The devs wanted to create a detailed world, but perhaps they went a little too far with the detail. Earlier in the week, users began posting content that revealed that both female and male NPC characters within the game have fully rendered genitalia, much to the amusement of the community. Images and videos have been shared on various social media platforms, even getting one user suspended from Playstation Network.
After this was revealed, it appears Ubisoft have realized this is perhaps not the best idea, and have released the following statement to Polygon :
“We’re aware that one of the NPC models in Watch Dogs 2 is rendered in a way that is particularly explicit. While Watch Dogs 2 is a mature-rated game, we apologize and will update this NPC model to make it more consistent with other NPC models in the game in a patch to be released this week. We also are working with our first-party partners to ensure that players can continue to play and share all content from the game within the bounds of the first parties’ respective codes of conduct.”
Although multiple NPCs within the game have fully rendered genitals, it appears that Ubisoft are mainly referencing here a post by a user named Swizzasaur , who shared an image of an NPC’s vagina on Twitter, to then receive a 1 week suspension from Playstation Network for breach of usage terms and conditions, under the Adult Content clause.

Swizzasaur seemed happy on Twitter that news outlets were picking up on the issue and sparking a discussion about the issue. As of the time of writing, his suspension has been overturned by Playstation Network, but he has not received an apology. He is adamant that the suspension was not the fault of Ubisoft, but instead Sony .

It appears a fair amount of users within the Watch Dogs 2 community believe that, out of all the issues within gaming, nudity is a very minor one, especially in a Mature rated game. Regardless of the morality of the issue, Ubisoft clearly doesn’t want their users suspended from their favourite consoles, and this is clearly a form of damage control. Watch Dogs 2, regardless of this issue, has been very well reviewed and seemingly loved by the community, offering a vibrant and open city-scape that some felt that the original Watch Dogs lacked.
