Bob, a cab-driving serial killer who stalks his prey on the city streets alongside his reluctant protégé Tim, who must make a life or death choice between following in Bob's footsteps or breaking free from his captor. Be prepared, this film is not for the faint of heart or the more sensitive viewers. Chained is the most unsettling film of 2012 that grips you by the throat and doesn't let go, as well as a kick in the stomach. Dread consumes this twisted, dark and provocative crime/thriller. In the vein of Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, this film takes you inside the mind of a ruthless killer, the character study is a very disturbing, heart shattering and shocking. Filled with depravity! The performances were powerfully tense and keeps you glued to the screen and on the edge of you seat. Vincent D'Onofrio( Full Metal Jacket), plays Bob, a serial killer cab driver and gives one hell of a chilling performance. You feel horrible for but hate him at the same time, a killer that's a product of his environment. Eamon Farren plays older Rabbit, which is the name Bob gives to him after he abducts him and his mom when he was a young child. Now he is chained to a wall with no way out, but to only buddy up with his captor enough to be freed from the chains. Eamon gives a captivating performance and you root for him to escape the horrors and at one point having you shout at the screen to fight back and get revenge. Harrowing film! Director Jennifer Lynch who directed the equally startling film Surveillance, has crafted yet another distressing, graphic and viscous film. The rawness of her films is now very much signature to me, she always has a way of getting under your skin, keeps you in suspense and hits you hard with a shocking conclusion. Her film will make you think twice about calling for a cab! Very much interested to see what she throws at us next, I won't be surprised if it leaves me in the fetal position, shaken out of my mind. She is that good! Overall, this film is definitely not for everyone as it's blood curdling, but the performances are some of the best of 2012 from this twisted genre. The story will keep you in cold sweat, wondering and guessing if poor Rabbit will make it out OK and has one hell of a shocking ending that will leave you breathless. A tough watch, but worth it!

First of all I do SPOIL/ GIVE away information about the movie, so please be aware of this. If you are looking for a movie like Saw, Friday the 13th, and other gory horror movies, then this one is NOT for you. It was an intense film, often disturbing, and at times scary. However, in this movie there was little blood and gore shown. What was mostly presented to the audience was an understanding of what the killer was doing, not only to his victims, but also the Rabbit character. On average, (SPOILER ALERT) the killer brought a girl into the house, and she would be crying/ screaming. He would then take her into the bedroom, and more screams, as the camera remained on Rabbit. Only later, as Rabbit cleaned up the mess, would you see bits and pieces of the mutilated bodies. However, do not assume that there were no graphic scenes, because there certainly were! One such scene included the killer as a teenager, and being forced to have relations with his own mother...gross! The one part about this film that I LOVED the most, was that the audience stayed within the killer's world, and rarely escaping it. Unfortunately, many horror movies spend little time within the killer's world, and the majority is consumed with a love story, a cop trying to solve the murders, and so on. In this film the audience knew little about what was really going on in the outside world. Were the police looking for Rabbit? What time of year was it? The audience, at times, could become just as disoriented as the Rabbit character himself. However, this movie was not perfect, and did have it's flaws. (1) I know that the scene about incest was necessary for the audience to understand how the killer became mentally unhinged. However, no way was/is any man/ teenager (I don't care how threatened they feel) going to get an er----tion and have relations with their own mother! No way! It was a powerful and disturbing scene (made me sick to my stomach), but very un-realistic. (2) What happened to the Angie character? Did she escape? If so, why did she not go to the police, and report the crime/ help Rabbit? Or was Angie chained to the bed/ taking on Rabbit's old role as servant? Rabbit kept her? This scenario would certainly explain why she ends up clean and sleeping on Rabbit's bed. (3) I loved the ending, and the role the father played in the film. The father's actions explained why the killer wanted Rabbit to follow in his footsteps/ did not kill Rabbit at the beginning. However, I did not like how Rabbit returned to the killer's house at the end of the film? He did not get help? What? I understand that Rabbit was suppose to be so far gone (mentally) that there was no way he could live a normal life, and he stayed in the house. However, this didn't fully work for me, due to the fact of how much help there is for these types of victims(now a days). Perhaps if the film was a period piece from a hundred years ago it would have made more sense? I don't know, the ending works for some, but it did not work for me. However, despite these flaws it was an excellent movie. The acting was believable, and the story kept me entertained. I would like to see more movies made like this one.

If there's one person that can convincingly act insane, it's Vincent D'onofrio. Most people portraying a mentally ill person go straight for the cliche route. (Eyes wide open, disheveled hair/ clothes, you get the point.) He played the part so well that I was actually starting to feel sorry for his character. It makes me think of this sentence I read. "Psychopaths are born, sociopaths are made." Makes me wonder if Bob would have been a normal adult had he been raised differently. The acting, pacing, cinematography, writing, lighting, sound, and effects are all great. The actor playing Rabbit is phenomenal. And that ending.... The multiple twists were unexpected and well done. I have two theories about what we hear while the credits rolled. My first theory is that he added his father's murder into the scrapbook and left the house for good. My second theory, the one I'm leaning towards, is that he does follow in Bob's footsteps. BUT his victims are men that commit some sort of violence against women/ children. Based on how he acted when Bob tried to get him to kill, and the fact that he let the Angie character live, presumably, I just don't see him killing women. Both of his "victims" were men that harmed women. I absolutely loved how his stepmother protected him by telling him to leave. A woman he knew for less than five minutes cared more about him than his own father. Definitely watching this movie again!

I think Vincent is a little creepy to begin with but in this one he’s got the grisly serial killer role nailed. We watched it because it was free but I would be hard pressed to pay for it because there really isn’t much to it and most of it is shot in a single room, a garage or the taxi. As Bob, he wants his captive youth to follow in his footsteps as a serial killer and we’re not quite sure if that also means he’ll be a cabbie so there are some plot flaws to it. What made this one was the ending that came as a real surprise but it also didn’t have the closure I expected so we were left wondering what would come next. The subject matter may not be for all but that’s what makes it different.

I enjoyed it, it was somewhat original and that I appreciated. But, there was so much blood, disturbing image and gore to have to go through in the entire movie to get to the interesting outcome. Not quite sure that happened to him at the very end???? Did he stay or leave?

Caution! I'm not sure if this review contains a spoiler or not! This is one of the best movies I've ever seen. It is very scary with lots of suspense but very little gore, which is so rare these days. So often gore takes the place of good acting and plot and that definitely doesn't work for me! I think it was very realistic and well done. No one seemed like they were acting. Usually serial killer movies are just over-the-top gore, over stereotyped killer and so predictable. This movie is none of that. This may sound weird to many people who have watched it, but I think the ending was fantastic, but not only because it was very creative and a real twist. To me it was actually a positive example of human nature. Consider nature vs. nurture and one person having the propensity for violence and another one the opposite no matter what the circumstances. I don't like the idea that anyone could be violent under the right conditions and I don't believe it. I believe many people are inherently good and no circumstances could ever change that. That's why I found the ending a positive thing that actually made me feel good. I wish there were more great movies like this. I usually turn them off after 10-30 minutes.

I see people love this type of movie a serial killer movie. Bad acting and dragged on and on like watching repeated scenes. 2 men in and out of one room. I had to fast forward. Nothing good about like movie.
