Was James Dean a good actor? Why is he so legendary -- is it mostly because he died young?
James Dean was an exceptional actor in the few roles that he portrayed in his short career (Giant being the standout although Rebel Without A Cause seems to be the best remembered). Had he not met an untimely end , he might have been remembered as a great actor for his era, in the way that Walter Pidgeon, Franchot Tone and William Powell (among others) were for theirs.
Frankly, the only reason that James Dean is remembered as well as he is was for the fact that he died prematurely. Had Dean lived another 10-25 years (as did his Rebel co-stars Nick Adams, Sal Mineo, Natalie Woods) he might have

Frankly, the only reason that James Dean is remembered as well as he is was for the fact that he died prematurely. Had Dean lived another 10-25 years (as did his Rebel co-stars Nick Adams, Sal Mineo, Natalie Woods) he might have lived long enough to be largely forgotten by the moviegoing audiences or to have to accept roles in lower quality vehicles simply to find acting work.
In my lifetime (I'm 45 at the time I'm writing this) I have witnessed James Dean's "legend" reach its likely zenith and begin to make its descent. I live about an hour from the now shuttered James Dean Museum, and while you are able to see Dean’s movies occasionally on cable or purchase them on DVD, the prevalence of his material seems to diminish as the years pass. Perhaps this will change with the advent of holograms and other yet to be invented forms of media. But for the moment, it appears that James Dean’s legend is dimming.
What kind of career would James Dean have had if he hadn't died so young?
Did James Dean and Marlon Brando sleep with each other?
Was James Dean gay or was it just an act to get what he wanted?
What was James Dean like in person?
Did the actor James Dean have a mental illness?
He lacked the overall ability of Brando, Clift and others who appeared on the acting scene at the same time.
James Dean is largely remembered for what might have been, rather than for being any good as an actor. He was a “pretty boy” type who suddenly found himself promoted to Grade “A” status at “Warner Bros.” Beforehand, Dean struggled to find much acting work in Hollywood and found only a few bit parts. Various sources have reported how he was willing to do anything it took, in order to gain stardom in the movies. The point is, Jimmy Dean didn't have enough in the way of theatre credentials.

Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift were taking the American theatre by storm, via the critical notices their performances garnered. They trained properly and by some of the leading actor coaches and lecturers in history. As a result, they were bound to be taken more seriously as heavyweight, dramatic actors. That's what James Dean should have done in the first place, rather than just knowing all the right people in Hollywood.
No way! The legend is greater than ever. He sold over $5 million in products last year, making him one of the top dead celebs. Some of his biggest fans are the age his grandkids would be. People flock to his hometown of Fairmount, In. each year to see where he lived & his grave. Their are always new imitators springing up, but they can never match him, no matter how they try. The jacket he wore in "Rebel Without a Cause" was auctioned off for $53,000 this past year & Jennifer Anniston dropped a large amount on his motorcycle jacket, as well. "Dawson Creek" was named for Dawson High

It's his loss.
No, James Dean’s legend lives on even after more than 60 years since his death simply because he truly was a great & gifted actor. You will need to watch & review thoroughly his films (and the other television shows he starred in) to get a glimpse of his rare talent. Read more books about him & on how he honed his craft. Discover what were the other emotional & psychological forces that influenced his outstanding talent.

The fact that his popularity and legend is very much secure and entrenched in the film industry despite making only 3 films is a testament to James Dean’s towering talent.
Did Marlon Brando and Wally Cox have a homosexual relationship?
Why was James Dean so perfect looking? I thought the best looking guy of all time was either Marlon Brando, Paul Newman, Hrithik Roshan, or Johnny Depp until I saw James Dean and I was stunned.
Was there a female actor similar to James Dean: short career, considered very good if not great, died tragically?
He was not a good actor eg. Giant. The only reason he is legendary is because of his tragic death so young
What did James Dean's passenger Rolf Wütherich say about the fatal crash of James Dean’s Porsche after surviving the crash himself?
I’m grateful for the answer request in relation to this issue.
I have to confess (gasp) that the only report that I had ever read about James Dean’s death was in one of the Hollywood Babylon books, and I’m ashamed to say that I never looked any further into the story.
I had never heard of Rolf Wutherich until I saw the question, at about 8:00 o’clock last night.
So I spent the next couple of hours trying to find more information about this intriguing guy.
And, boy is there some weird stuff on the Internet about him.
What seems not to be controversial is that Rudolf Wutherich was born on August 5, 1

And, boy is there some weird stuff on the Internet about him.
What seems not to be controversial is that Rudolf Wutherich was born on August 5, 1927 in Heilbronn, that he joined the Wehmacht in 1944 at the age of 17 years, as a paratrooper and glider pilot, then in 1950, Rolf joined the Daimler-Benz organization as a mechanic, then, in 1953 or 54, he moved to Porsche’s Experimental Division where he worked mainly with the then new 550 Spyder, assisting purchasers with setting up their Spyders for racing.
In 1955, he was sent to the United States in this role, operating out of Jonny Von Neumann’s Competition Motors in Los Angeles. He met James Dean at Bakersfield Races in the same year, where Mr Dean was racing a Porsche Speedster. The two men developed a friendship, and in September, when five new Spyders were imported by Mr Von Neumann, he sold one to Mr Dean, but only if Rolf Wutherich would agree to assist Mr Dean with setting up the vehicle for racing, and would, at least for a while, attend races with him and assist with any problems.
Mr Dean entered the vehicle in the races at Salinas, Ca. on the weekend of October 1 and 2, 1955. The plan was that the Spyder was to travel up to Salinas on a trailer on September 30, 1955, and the two men attended a Competition Motors that morning to do some final adjustments to the vehicle.
At about 2:00 pm on Friday, September 30, 1955, the convoy left Los Angeles. Rolf had suggested to James Dean that the drive to Salinas would be useful in assisting him to learn the idiosyncrasies of the vehicle, as well as helping the newly assembled vehicle to settle in. They were followed by Mr Dean’s friend Bill Hickman, driving Mr Dean’s 1955 Ford Country Squire station wagon, acting as support vehicle.
As they left, Carl Von Delius took the now notorious photograph of Messrs Dean and Wutherich, sitting in the Spyder, smiling, with their arms raised in a “Thelma and Louise” pose.
Near Bakersfield, Mr Dean was ticketed by California Highway Patrol officer O. V. Hunter, for driving 10 miles per hour over the limit. He then turned on to Route 166/33, a road mainly used by racers to avoid Bakersfield. At about 3:30 pm, the convoy stopped at a rest stop called Blackwell Corner. James Dean had a Coke, Rolf Wutherich ate an apple. Mr Dean said to Mr Wutherich “I don’t want to be labelled as the wild man of this race.” Rolf replied “Just remember that there’s a big difference between the Speedster and the Spyder. Get a feel for it.” Mr Dean replied “I want to be a really good driver, OK?” Mr Dean then took a ring from his finger and put it on the third finger of Rolf’s left hand, saying “Come Rolf, you are my guardian angel. You get this ring from me.”
At 5:45 pm, they came to a fork in the road. The sun was low in in James Dean’s face. As can be seen from the attached sketch, prepared much later by Rolf Wutherich to assist the investigation. It can be seen that any vehicle coming from the opposite direction had to obey a Stop sign. That sign applied to the vehicle which hit them.
The Ford which hit the Spyder was driven by Veteran and student, 24 year-old Donald Turnupseed. Skid marks showed that he had braked for about 40 yards before the collision. Mr Turnupseed later said “I didn’t see the Spyder. The roadway had a sort of mirror effect from the sun, and the Spyder had a metallic silver look.” The Spyder also had a low profile look, particularly in comparison with the Ford, which made it more difficult to see.
Some sources say that James Dean’s last words to Rolf were “He’s gotta stop. I think he sees me.” This is not universally agreed, although it’s perfectly understandable. There is some evidence that James Dean tried to use a racing driver’s “sidestep” maneuver in an attempt to avoid Mr Turnupseed’s car.
The complicating factor is that Mr Wutherich was extremely badly injured, and was hospitalized for a considerable period. He initially reported that he had no memory of the accident, or even most of the day of the accident. The sketch, however, indicates that he must have recovered some memory.
James Dean suffered significant injuries. The major injury that he suffered was a broken neck. A nurse who attended the scene found that he had a weak pulse, but believed that he probably could not be saved.
An inquest was held, and the collision was ruled an unavoidable accident. No blame attached to Mr Turnupseed, and he was not charged with any offense.
As a postscript, the sudden death of a man who had been such a huge star for such a short time invariably led to rumor and innuendo. There are those who believe that James Dean’s death was caused by medical negligence, and that if he had had a collar placed on his neck, he would have lived. Another theory is that Mr Dean is still alive and living with hugely disfiguring injuries.
Did James Dean and Marlon Brando sleep with each other?
Yes, they did. Brando was a self-admitted bisexual, Dean was more gay, but Lord knows what his sexuality really was. He had lots of relationships with either sex, and according to Gilmore, he enjoyed sleeping with women as well (he even slept with one Playboy bunny, Alice Denham; she said she quit it with him when he was f*cking her and telling her that he chose her because she looked like his dead mum). I have read nearly every book about him written by his (alleged, some confirmed) friends, and the most compassionate was the one by Bill Bast. However, the most credible account on his life an

I have read nearly every book about him written by his (alleged, some confirmed) friends, and the most compassionate was the one by Bill Bast. However, the most credible account on his life and sexuality was given by author (and former actor and friend) John Gilmore. He mostly cannot make much of James Dean because Jimmy did not know what he was himself, but Gilmore aid he was not 100 gay, and that it was a lie started by Kenneth Anger and those guys. He was not at all heterosexual also, like Dizzy Sheridan, the actress from Alf and James´ former fiancée, tries to paint him. She later admitted herself that he was merely bisexual. His romance with Pier Angeli was a sham, tho. Yes, they were together, and many people “heard” them together, if you know what I mean, but it was a pure sexual relationship. They were just “friends with benefits”, not real partners. Gilmore even says that James may have fathered more than one child outside of marriage. One was - almost indisputably, from some sources - with the American actress going by the name Karen Davis (which was a pseudonym given to her in Gilmore´s book because she was afraid that Dean´s fans could threaten her), who later moved to Canada, already pregnant. From another source: they said that when the film studio bosses (allegedly) learned about her pregnancy with Dean (not confirmed it was him, but it was strongly hinted at), they gave her money and made her go to abortion, but she might have not gone, just took the money and left. Dean was already dead by the time, and she was at least four months pregnant when he died. He allegedly told her that they will talk about it later when he comes from the racing tracks, but he died.

Did the actor James Dean have a mental illness?
Most certainly. There is no wonder, especially after all the disastrous and traumatic events he had to endure in his childhood. I know for sure that he went to different psychiatrists on many occasions, once even at the recommendation of his short-time lover and acting rival, Marlon Brando.
However, no one knows what exactly Dean was suffering from. We can only guess. All I can do (and I am not a specialist) is to throw some guesstimations in the boxing ring. He could have been suffering from:

1 —- MANIC DEPRESSION (today called bipolar disorder): the most likely diagnosis. Dean suffered from extremely (!) violent mood swings.
2 —- BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER: most probably an accompanying illness (aka the so-called comorbidity).
3 —- AVOIDANT PERSONALITY DISORDER: very likely an accompanying illness.
4 —- ASPERGER SYNDROME: there are some symptoms but they could be really signs of his anxiety-related disorders.

What are some mind-blowing facts about Marlon Brando?
When studying acting, Brando and his class were asked to act out a chicken at the time of an imminent nuclear bomb. Every student in the class would flap their arms wildly and run around the room clucking, except for Brando.
Brando just stood there, acting out a chicken who was looking for food. When asked why he was doing so by the teacher, he said: “I'm a chicken, I don't know what a nuclear bomb is.”
Something else on Marlon Brando: he had crazy eating habits. I’ll make a selection:

Marlon Brando? Seriously? Brando, as a young man, was certainly in great shape by the classic standards of male physique (he wasn’t fat, he was ripped)… but he had a broken nose and he wasn’t tall. When he played Stanley Kowalski — who was a rapist, after all — he projected great animal magnetism… but it was mostly his attitude, his bravado, even his F.U. attitude which translated into a kind of “alpha male” persona.
And are you saying that James Dean was “stunning” in that he was so much better looking than expected? Or are you saying you were stunned that he was considered so much better look
