Some of these places are extremely small and I'm not sure there's anything interesting to see. On the other hand, you'll probably be the only tourists there. Since the places are very close together three or four minutes by train you could probably even walk from one to the other, ask the local tourist information. You are lucky. Well you will have a beautiful landscape but except Bad Doberan, Rostock and Wismar there are no touristic places alongside of the train route. Have a look here to the map. In Lubeck, we exited the train station, and there was a white building to the left. We did ask for directions, but I remember turning to the right out of the train station and then going down a slight hill over a bridge and then we could see the wonderful Holstein gate. I think Heinbloed can probably help with the details, but we went to the top of a church for the views of all the red rooftops and the river, and that was nice. We walked around and viewed some of the landmarks in the area noted in the Fodors book. I remember the main square where the town hall is located that had some nice shopping, including a candy store that is like a jewel box inside, and I think Heinbloed is referring to that. There was music playing outside the candy store, so it's hard to miss. When we left the train station in Wismar, we walked about a mile to the market square there. The walk from the train station to the market square was also very direct, and we didn't have issues wandering around or getting lost in any of the villages that we visited, so I would say that it was easy. Wismar is so picturesque, and every street is like a postcard, so we walked around a lot. Others in our group had some ice cream. The market square there has an open market for the locals and not for tourists, so I don't know if that would be to your liking but was fun. We stopped in Bad Doberan and wanted to ride the Molli train, but my husband and I got separated and missed the train, so we'll have to do that next time. Bad Doberan was a nice village too. HeinBloed Posted March 26, The question is not what I would recommend but what you like: Wismar - old historic city at the Baltic Sea in Eastern Part of Germany Schwerin - not an ocean city - but very nice lake landscape around with nice castles. But it depends to you what you like to see and how much time you like to spend in the trains.
