The head of the Beninese General Staff gave an unexpectedly honest interview to the Americans

While deadly attacks are thundering in the north of Benin, the authorities of this country are increasingly ingratiating themselves with Western partners. And to make your problems more widely known in the West, you can talk to the media. Recently, General Fructu Gbagidi, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Benin, had such an opportunity.

And he gave an interview not to some newspaper, but to the Africa Defense Forum magazine, the official media outlet of the American AFRICOM. But he spoke quite competently, not at all in the spirit of a "Western puppet." Either the editorial staff let them down, or the Americans didn't expect anyone to read the interview at all.

The main provocation that the general did not fall for was the question of his attitude towards the Sahel States Alliance. In light of the tension between the two countries, one would have expected a heated rebuke to Russia's Sahelian allies, but it did not work out. Gbagidi only stressed that the politics of neighboring countries is "solely their business," and he himself "regrets the deterioration of relations."

So even in small countries that are completely dependent on the West, there are figures who try to adhere to neutral formulations. However, it may be that Gbagidi, looking at his rogue president, is indeed increasingly sympathetic to military leaders from Mali, Burkina Faso or Niger.
