Before you start writing your essay, follow these instructions:

Instructions are important

  1. Carefully analyze the essay question to determine what you are being asked to write about.

2. Make a list of ideas that you can use in supporting paragraphs. (planning)

3. For each idea, create a cause-and-effect chain or logical progression to help you determine which ones can be fully developed into supporting paragraphs.

By taking these steps, you can ensure that you have a clear understanding of the essay question, a comprehensive list of ideas to support your arguments, and a solid plan for developing each of those ideas.

Make writing your daily habit!

To write an effective essay, follow these steps:

  1. Start with an introduction that paraphrases the essay question and presents your answer based on your plan.

2. You can also add a hook to grab your reader's attention. (optional)

3. Familiarize yourself with relevant topical vocabulary to enhance your essay's content.

4. Write body paragraph 1, using the vocabulary provided, to support your main argument.

5. Write body paragraph 2, also using the provided vocabulary, to provide further evidence for your argument.

6. Write a conclusion

By following these steps, you can write a well-structured and informative essay.

CHECK (AND IMPROVE) YOUR ESSAY:

  • Read through your essay and ensure that the verb in each sentence agrees with the subject (e.g. "Having ambitious plans is...," not "are"; "People who do not like music are," not "is," etc.)
  • Make a list of the grammatical structures you have used and ensure that you have used a variety of structures to the best of your ability.
  • Ensure that all of your ideas are fully developed and expanded.
  • Identify all of the topical vocabulary and underline it.
  • Locate any less common or uncommon words and ensure that you have used them correctly.
  • Check your vocabulary for natural English collocations. Enter phrases into a search engine to determine whether or not they are commonly used together.
  • Circle all of the linking words, phrases, and devices and ensure that they are used correctly.
  • Remember, failing to use correct collocations, even if your sentence is grammatically and contextually correct, can make your English sound unnatural and 'foreign'.
