Jennifer Westfeldt (born February 2, 1970) is an American actress, director, screenwriter, and producer. She is best known for co-writing, co-producing, and starring in the 2002 indie film Kissing Jessica Stein, for which she received an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best First Screenplay. She is also known for writing, producing, starring in, and making her directorial debut in the indie film Friends with Kids (2012). Westfeldt's television work includes recurring roles on Notes from the Underbelly (2007–2009), Grey's Anatomy (2009), 24 (2010), and Younger (2017–2021) as well as guest starred on shows such as Girls, and This Is Us. Westfeldt made her Broadway debut in 2003 in the revival of Wonderful Town earning a nomination for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

Wonderful Town is a 1953 musical with book written by Joseph A. Fields and Jerome Chodorov, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and music by Leonard Bernstein. The musical tells the story of two sisters who aspire to be a writer and actress respectively, seeking success from their basement apartment in New York City's Greenwich Village. It is based on Fields and Chodorov's 1940 play My Sister Eileen, which in turn originated from autobiographical short stories by Ruth McKenney first published in The New Yorker in the late 1930s and later published in book form as My Sister Eileen. Only the last two stories in McKenney's book were used, and they were heavily modified. After a pre-Broadway try-out at the Forrest Theatre in Philadelphia, Wonderful Town premiered on Broadway in 1953, starring Rosalind Russell in the role of Ruth Sherwood, Edie Adams as Eileen Sherwood, and George Gaynes as Robert Baker. It won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Actress, and spawned three New York City Center productions between 1958 and 1966, the 1955 and 1986 West End production and 2003 Broadway revival. It is a lighter piece than Bernstein's later works, West Side Story and Candide, but none of the songs have become as popular.

Audra Ann McDonald (born July 3, 1970) is an American singer and actress. Primarily known for her work on the Broadway stage, she has won six Tony Awards, more performance wins than any other actor, and is the only person to win in all four acting categories. "Ohio" is a song from the 1953 Broadway musical Wonderful Town, sung by the protagonists Ruth and Eileen, bemoaning the fact that they had left Ohio for New York City. The lyric is centered around the rhyming phrase "Why, oh, why, oh, why, oh/why did I ever leave Ohio?" The song features a spoken word section in the middle, where the girls recall all the things they hated about Ohio that prompted them to leave in the first place, that ends with the sung line "Thank heaven we're free!" before going back to the title lyric. It was written by Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green. In the original 1953 Broadway production, the song was performed by Rosalind Russell and Edie Adams, as a duet. Wonderful Town is a 2007 Thai film written and directed by Aditya Assarat. The film is set on the mainland north of Phuket Island in the dreary post-tsunami Khao Lak area and Takua Pa town, Phang Nga Province. Shooting was completed in December 2006, for which Aditya had secured funding from Singha Beer and Rolex. More money was needed for post-production work, funds were provided by the Thailand Ministry of Culture's Office of Contemporary Art and Culture. Wonderful Town premiered at the 2007 Busan International Film Festival. It won the festival's top prize, the New Currents Award and a US$90,000 prize, which was split evenly with two other filmmakers who also won the award, Malaysian director Liew Seng Tat, who won for his film Flower in the Pocket, and Guang Hao-jin of China, for his film Life Track. Aditya said he would use his prize money to transfer his digital-format footage to 35-millimeter, and hoped it would have a limited screening in Bangkok sometime in 2008. Wonderful Town was shown in the Forum programme at the 2008 Berlin International Film Festival, and won the prestigious Tiger Award at the 2008 International Film Festival Rotterdam.
