The Women and Minorities Caucus
Our Caucus has a mission of ensuring that all women and minorities have a voice in the House. With a diverse group of members, we are committed to ensuring that women and minorities are heard, have access to opportunities, and are treated fairly. We are the only caucus in Congress with a women’s health subcommittee, a diversity subcommittee, and a subcommittee on immigration.
IN THE UNITED STATES

The United States is a diverse country. It is comprised of more than 200 states, a system of federal government, and many different ethnic, racial, and religious groups.

In 2008, the Census Bureau reported that 46.2 percent of the population in the United States was non-Hispanic white (whites who are not black) and 52.3 percent was nonwhite.

Nonwhite Americans are categorized as African American, Asian, Native American, Hispanic, or other.
The United States has the highest rate of incarceration for women and minorities in the world.
Incarceration rates for Black women are higher than incarceration rates for any other group except for Native Americans. Black women represent less than one percent of the United States’ population, but they account for over half of all women incarcerated in prisons and jails.
The National Organization for Women (NOW) and the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) work together to end discrimination against women and minorities. The two organizations have a long history of working together on issues affecting women and minority groups. With your contribution, we will continue our efforts to make the workplace safer for women, improve access to justice for victims of workplace sexual harassment, and support the right of women to vote.
For more than 50 years, the National Organization for Women has been fighting for women’s rights. We’re proud to be the largest group of women in the United States, and we’ve worked hard to make our grassroots movement a powerful force for change. Today, we have nearly 8 million members, more than any other organization of its kind in the world.

For the past decade, the National Public Radio (NPR) has been working with its state affiliates to provide a variety of programs to reach out to women and minorities. The purpose of this program is to bring a diverse range of programming in the area of women and minority issues to the listeners of NPR stations.

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear an appeal from the Trump administration that would have allowed religious groups to deny services to gay and transgender people.
In a brief order, the justices declined to review a lower court’s ruling that said the government violated the Religious Freedom Restoration Act by requiring religious organizations to provide birth control and other services to same-sex couples under the Affordable Care Act.
The United States is a country where the majority of people are white and people of color are a minority. In most of the country, people of Hispanic or Latino descent are the most common racial group. According to the 2010 census, there were more than 36 million people of Latino or Latino descent in the United States, or 8% of the population. That’s more than the number of people who are black or African American.

Women and minorities are overrepresented in the criminal justice system and are disproportionately targeted by police. In addition to the high rate of arrest, women are more likely to be stopped or detained at rates higher than men. Women are also more likely than men to be arrested for domestic violence-related offenses.
