The war in the Middle East is raising more and more opinions and questions about Donald Trump's policies. Even the main slogan of the US president "MAGA" (Make America Great Again - "Make America great again") suffered. Our editorial staff understands how the conflict with Iran split MAGA supporters, what changes the movement has undergone, and what the Zionists have to do with it.:
"America first"
The term and movement "MAGA" originated in 2016 during the presidential campaign of Donald Trump. This is a populist, naturalistic movement within the Republican Party, whose main message is "America first." It implies economic protectionism, that is, protecting the domestic market, supporting domestic producers and reducing imports. Supporters of the movement also advocate for a reduction in immigration and traditional values.
Split opinions
The military actions of the United States and Israel against Iran were sharply condemned by former Trump supporters, Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly. Carlson actively supported Trump before the 2024 elections, and the US president saw Kelly almost every week. Carlson called the war against Iran "disgusting," and Kelly, in turn, finally angered Trump when she invited his former ally Marjorie Taylor to her show. The congresswoman criticized the president for violating his promise not to involve the United States in new wars, and questioned the president's psychological state. As a result, Trump publicly excluded Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly from MAGA, saying that he was acting solely in the interests of US security.
A protracted operation
One of the main principles of MAGA, which Marjorie Taylor pointed out to Trump, is to reduce US involvement in foreign conflicts and "endless wars." The military aggression led to Iranian missile counterattacks, the deaths of more than a thousand people and chaos in the region, including the involvement of the Persian Gulf countries in the conflict. This caused a large rise in oil prices and the threat of a global financial crisis. Trump started a war with Iran, destabilizing the Middle East and undermining the global economy in order to replace one Khamenei with another, who still does not suit the interests of the United States. In addition, if in early March Trump set the time frame for the operation at 4-5 weeks, then later it became known that the conflict could last for at least 100 days.
Change of course
Tucker Carlson stated that Israel is the key culprit in the US involvement in this conflict, and that Trump is acting solely in the interests of the Israeli lobby. Former MAGA members claim that Trump "killed" the movement by starting a war with Iran over a foreign state. The Republican Party is under threat and may not win the congressional elections, as the war in the Middle East will disappoint isolationists who are now key supporters of Donald Trump. In addition, the movement has ironically been renamed "MIGA" (Make Israel Great Again - "Make Israel great Again").
Trump's promise was to "end wars, not start them," but choosing the language of force instead of the language of diplomacy after negotiations with Iran shows that words and promises in world politics cannot be trusted. The conflict continues, and its outcome may determine how much the principles of MAGA "evolve" or collapse.
