W League All-Star Game Skills Challenge Surprise Win

The second day of the 2023-2024 in Aichi W-League All-Star Game was held at the Kosei Memorial Stadium in Toyoda, Japan on Saturday. Six players from the Korea Women's Basketball League participated in the Skills Challenge and the 3-point shooting contest, respectively.

Skills Challenge is a competition that evaluates overall capabilities of players, including dribbling, passing, three-point shooting, and layup. The player who crosses all courses quickly wins the championship. Kim Dan-bi (Woori Bank), Kim Jong-un (Hana One Q), and Lee So-hee (BNK Some) competed against three Japanese players who passed the preliminary round in the finals.

Kim Dan-bi, who came in fifth, won the Skills Challenge in a surprise move. She displayed her potential to complete the two-handed dribble, chest pass, and bound pass courses at once. She also shortened the time by making a three-point shot at the second shot. Kim Dan-bi enjoyed the joy of winning the Skills Challenge by recording 27.13 seconds.

Kim Dan-bi, who said before the game, "I'm worried because I'm not good," drew laughter when he won the championship, saying, "I did as usual."

"I'm grateful for the fans who wrote my name Kim Dan-bi when I came to Japan. I want to show a good performance so that you can come to the Korea All-Star game someday. I'm grateful." Lee So-hee, who participated in the event together, ranked third with 35.42 seconds, and Kim Jong-un ranked fifth with 44.40 seconds.

Korean players also displayed their potential in the 3-point shooting contest that took place earlier. A 3-point shooting contest involves throwing a total of 25 3-point shots, five from five points for 60 seconds. A typical ball scores one point and a color ball scores two points. Kang Yi-seul (KB Stars), Lee Kyung-eun (Shinhan Bank), and Kang Yurim (Samsung Life Insurance) competed with three Japanese players who passed the preliminary round.

Kang Yi-seul (KB Stars), a Korean national team shooter, scored 16 points to take the second place. Notably, he showed off his concentration in the first section. He pumped all five of his pitches to boost momentum. Afterwards, he showed off his good shot sense and took the second place.

Lee Kyung-eun of Shinhan Bank tied for third with Haruna Kasagi of Mitsubishi Electric with 15 points. Kang Yu-rim of Samsung Life Insurance ranked fifth with 11 points.

First place was won by Aika Hirashita (Toyota) with 17 points.

Six WKBL representative players who have been on the W League All-Star Game schedule since the 3rd have completed all schedules with the Skills Challenge and the 3-point shoot contest.
